"In none of them are mothers -the process of pregnancy was followed by the Ministry. He indicated that the particular doctor that tried told them they could have had zika and they did tests, both babies and mothers, to determine if there was presence of zika, and were negative, "he said.

Arana said samples to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC in English) in the United States for a second evaluation were sent, and the results will be known when that entity to provide its findings.

"But at the moment it is false that there is a birth of microcephaly associated with zika already proven," he said.

Carlos Soto, director of the Roosevelt Hospital, differs with respect Arana Health, as indicated last June that attended a patient who was admitted with diagnosed zika and this gave birth to a baby with microcephaly.

"We did all the tests to the newborn. They have not returned National Laboratory, but he did all the other tests were negative and the patient. He also did a CT scan and found the child itself is obviously microcephaly "he said.

Soto, however, stressed that they have the lab results may be certain if the child contracted zika.

"Obviously, if we zika mother, newborn with microcephaly, and other negative tests for microcephaly, then I think it could be microcephaly by zika" he said.

The doctor said the patient was referred to a sanatorium in Mazatenango, Suchitepequez.

Arana said that since November 15, 2015 to June 25 last reported 453 newly confirmed cases zika two thousand 76 suspects. Besides that period recorded in 109 pregnant women, of which 36 babies were born. "We all are healthy, none have been reported with congenital anomaly," he said.

The official explained that the laboratory tests to confirm or exclude that children have been infected with the virus, and that mothers have had the disease, were sent to the Center for Disease Control (CDC in English), for a second opinion as those practiced in the country were negative.
