Two Additional Travel-Related COVID-19 Cases Reported For Immediate Release: 3/22/2020 CONTACTS Leah Bucco-White, Communications, 402-309-4157 [email protected] Khalilah LeGrand, Communications, 402-853-1320 [email protected] LINCOLN – Two additional cases of COVID-19 were identified in two Nebraska counties: A woman in her 40s from Dawson County who recently traveled. She is currently self-isolating at home - https://www.trphd.org/ . Douglas County also announced an additional travel-related case today. Both local health departments have initiated contact investigations to identify people who came into close contact to help prevent further spread. All identified close contacts will self-quarantine and be actively monitored twice daily by public health officials for fever and respiratory symptoms. Public health officials say returning travelers should assume that COVID-19 is present at the locations they have visited and traveled through and follow these recommendations: All returning travelers, from any international or domestic location, should limit public interactions, practice strict social distancing, and self-monitor for symptoms. Returning travelers from regions with widespread sustained transmission (e.g., CDC Level 3 countries - https://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices#alert - plus U.S. locales such as Seattle, WA; New York City; and Santa Clara County, CA) should immediately self-quarantine. If a returning traveler develops fever or respiratory illness, they need to immediately self-isolate and report to a healthcare provider or local health department. Individuals unable to observe the 14-day self-quarantine should consult with their local health department about appropriate actions. Every health care worker who returns from travel should consult with a trained medical professional at their facility (e.g., infection preventionist or physician) and establish a specific infection control protocol (e.g., home quarantine, self-monitoring, personal protective equipment while at work) that mitigates patient and co-worker exposures As of tonight, the state case total is 50. Both state and local health departments are testing and publicly reporting their cases. In the event of a discrepancy between DHHS cases and cases reported by local public health officials, data reported by the local health department should be considered the most up to date. People who are concerned they may have COVID-19 should self-isolate and call ahead to their primary care provider to be screened over the phone. Certain people are at higher risk of getting very sick from COVID-19 including older adults and people who have serious chronic medical conditions like heart disease, diabetes and lung disease, according to the CDC. People in these higher-risk groups should: Stock up on supplies , including extra necessary medications. Take everyday precautions to keep space between yourself and others. When you go out in public, keep away from others who are sick, limit close contact and wash your hands often. Avoid crowds as much as possible. Avoid cruise travel and non-essential air travel. If there is a COVID-19 outbreak in your community, stay home as much as possible to further reduce your risk of being exposed. Recent data shows that the virus is also affecting younger people. A Centers for Disease Control and Prevention report said 20% of those hospitalized for COVID-19 in the U.S. were 20-44 years old. Everyone can help reduce the spread of COVID-19 and other respiratory infections by: Avoiding close contact with sick people and stay home if you are sick. Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water aren't available, use an alcohol-based sanitizer. Avoiding touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Covering your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze then throw the tissue in the trash. Cleaning and disinfecting frequently touched objects and surfaces. Here's where to find tools and resources for individuals and families, schools, communities, businesses, healthcare facilities, and first responders on the DHHS website - http://dhhs.ne.gov/coronavirus and CDC's website – https://www.cdc.gov/covid19 . DHHS opened a statewide coronavirus (COVID-19) information line to help answer general questions and share the latest information and resources with Nebraskans to help keep them informed. The number is (402) 552-6645; hours of operation are 8 a.m.-8 p.m. CST, 7 days a week. DHHS will continue to update Nebraskans through the DHHS website and on Facebook and Twitter as we have new information. The CDC's website is also a good resource for COVID-19 information - https://www.cdc.gov/covid19 . ### Go to All News Releases http://dhhs.ne.gov/Pages/Two-Additional-Travel-related-COVID-19-Cases-Reported.aspx

Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) in Illinois Test Results Positive (Confirmed) 1049 Deaths 9 Total Persons Tested* 8374 *Total # of persons reported electronically for testing of COVID-19 at IDPH, commercial or hospital laboratories. All numbers displayed are provisional and subject to change. Information regarding the number of persons under investigation updated on March 22, 2020. Information to be updated Daily. COVID-19 Illinois Positive Cases *Some data has yet to be provided by commercial laboratories (including counties). IDPH is working with commercial labs to obtain the necessary data. As that information is identified, the map will be updated appropriately. Positive (confirmed)1046Deaths9 Positive (confirmed)Deaths The Illinois Department of Public Health, local health departments, and public health partners throughout Illinois, and federal agencies, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), are responding to an outbreak of respiratory illness caused by a novel coronavirus called COVID-19 that was first identified in December 2019 during an outbreak in Wuhan, China. COVID-19 has spread throughout the world, including the United States, since it was detected and was declared a public health emergency for the U.S. on January 31, 2020 to aid the nation’s healthcare community in responding to the threat. The World Health Organization announced March 11, 2020 that the spread of coronavirus qualifies as a global pandemic. In addition, Gov. JB Pritzker issued a disaster proclamation March 9, 2020 regarding COVID-19 that gives the state access to federal and state resources to combat the spread of this newly emerged virus. The first case of COVID-19 in the United States was reported January 21, 2020 and the first confirmed case in Illinois was announced January 24, 2020 (a Chicago resident). The first cases outside Chicago and Cook County were reported March 11, 2020 in Kane and McHenry counties. The current count of cases of COVID-19 in the United States is available on the CDC webpage at www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/cases-in-us.html. Illinois case totals and test results are listed below. Person-to-person spread of COVID-19 appears to be mainly between people who are in close contact with one another (within about 6 feet) through respiratory droplets produced when an infected person coughs or sneezes. It also may be possible that a person can get COVID-19 by touching a surface or object that has the virus on it and then touching their own mouth, nose, or possibly their eyes. Signs and symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and shortness of breath. Preliminary data suggest older adults and people with underlying health conditions or compromised immune systems seems to be at greater risk of developing serious illness from the virus. If you are sick and have respiratory symptoms, such as fever, cough, and shortness of breath, stay home unless you need medical attention. Remain in your home until you feel better and have no symptoms. Keep in mind there is no treatment for COVID-19 and people who are mildly ill can isolate at home. While at home, as much as possible, stay in a specific room and away from other people. Those who need medical attention should contact their health care provider who will evaluate whether they can be cared for at home or need to be hospitalized. This is a rapidly evolving situation and information will be updated as needed here and on the CDC website at cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/index.html. For general questions about COVID-19 and Illinois’ response and guidance, call 1-800-889-3931 or email [email protected]. Novel Coronavirus in Hawaii COVID-19 Positive* Cases Cumulative totals as of 12:00 noon on March 22, 2020 Total (new) 56 (8) County Hawaii 3 (0) Honolulu 41 (6) Kauai 3 (0) Maui 9 (2) Required Hospitalization 3 (0) Deaths 0 (0) *includes presumptive and confirmed cases, and Hawaii and non-Hawaii residents; note that CDC provides case counts according to states of residence. An outbreak of a new coronavirus disease in 2019 (COVID-19) that began in Wuhan, China has been developing since December 2019. This outbreak now includes hundreds of thousands of cases globally and has become widespread in a number of countries. Update: As COVID-19 spreads globally and nationally, we are detecting cases introduced into our state by both visitors and residents alike, although >80% of our cases are among returning residents from mainland as well as international locations. At least one of the newly identified cases has no known travel or contact with travelers. This is the first indication of community spread of COVID-19 in Hawaii and highlights the importance of social distancing (i.e., maintaining at least 6 ft distance or 2 arm’s length, whichever is longer, from others). Social distancing can reduce the spread of disease and protect those who are most vulnerable in our community. If you get sick, please stay home—get rest, drink plenty of fluids, and get better. If you are older or have an underlying medical condition and become ill, call your doctor. For an interactive tool with guidance on who should seek medical care, visit: CDC’s COVID-19 Self-Checker https://health.hawaii.gov/docd/advisories/novel-coronavirus-2019/
