WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) The state's second Zika case has been confirmed.

The Kansas Health Department says a second adult from northeast Kansas has the virus. The case was reported May 3.

Doctors say the patient has a travel history to countries where the virus is spreading, and do not think the person contracted Zika while in Kansas.

Zika can cause a birth defect that causes babies to be born with abnormally small heads. The virus is also linked to some neurological complications in adults.

Zika is mainly spread through mosquitoes.

Doctors are recommending pregnant women avoid traveling to many countries in Central and South America, which are dealing with Zika outbreaks.
