An official with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment has confirmed the fourth case of Zika virus in Kansas.

The case confirmed Friday is in south-central Kansas, said Cassie Sparks, KDHE public information officer. However, a more specific location was not provided.

This is the first Zika case in south-central Kansas. There was one case in southwest Kansas and two others in the northeast part of the state, Sparks said. All of the cases are travel-related, meaning the people affected had traveled to a region where the virus is present.

All of those affected in Kansas are adults.

When traveling to areas where Zika virus or other viruses spread by mosquitoes are found, take the following steps:

•    Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants
•    Stay in places with air conditioning or that use window and door screens to keep mosquitoes outside
•    Sleep under a mosquito bed net if you are overseas or outside and not able to protect yourself from mosquito bites
•    Use insect repellents containing an EPA-registered active ingredient on skin and clothing, including DEET, picaridin, oil of lemon eucalyptus, para-menthane-diol or IS 3535.
•    If you are using sunscreen, apply sunscreen before applying insect repellent
•    Treat clothing and gear with permethrin or purchase permethrin-treated items

Pregnant women should consider postponing travel to areas where Zika virus transmission is ongoing.
