What we know Stay-at-home orders remain. Most of the state, including Los Angeles County, is currently under stricter rules. Case counts continue to mount. Over the last seven days, the state has averaged 27,546 cases per day. Roughly 8.5% of tests this past week have come back positive. The death toll is rising too. The state has averaged 491.1 daily deaths over the last week, an increase of 8.9% from two weeks ago. The hospitalization surge is cresting. Statewide, there are 18,442 people hospitalized with a confirmed case, a 15.2% decrease from two weeks ago. Vaccines are slowly arriving. 4.2% of the population has received at least one dose. After adjusting for population, Latinos are now 2.6 times more likely than whites to test positive. So far, 1 out of every 13 people in the state has tested positive. The number statewide is now on pace to double every 72.9 days, a number used to measure how quickly the virus is spreading.
