What we know Case counts have started to sink. Over the last seven days, the state has averaged 27,087 cases per day, a 39.5% decrease from two weeks ago. Roughly 8.1% of tests this past week have come back positive. The death toll is near all-time highs. The state has averaged 503.7 daily deaths over the last week, an increase of 4.8% from two weeks ago. The hospitalization surge has crested. Statewide, there are 17,810 people hospitalized with a confirmed case, a 17.7% decrease from two weeks ago. Vaccines are slowly arriving. 4.7% of the population has received at least one dose. After adjusting for population, Latinos are now 2.6 times more likely than whites to test positive.
