What we know The state has lifted regional stay-at-home orders. Though many restrictions are likely to remain, the change could allow restaurants to reopen outdoor dining and some services to resume. Case counts have started to sink. Over the last seven days, the state has averaged 22,907 cases per day, a 47.3% decrease from two weeks ago. Roughly 7.9% of tests this past week have come back positive. The death toll is near all-time highs. The state has averaged 561.7 daily deaths over the last week, an increase of 9.6% from two weeks ago. The hospitalization surge has crested. Statewide, there are 16,839 people hospitalized with a confirmed case, a 22.2% decrease from two weeks ago. Vaccines are slowly arriving. 5.5% of the population has received at least one dose. After adjusting for population, Latinos are now 2.6 times more likely than whites to test positive. So far, 1 out of every 12 people in the state has tested positive. The number statewide is now on pace to double every 96.2 days, a number used to measure how quickly the virus is spreading.
