April 4, 20224 yr comment_56098 Quebec wildlife authorities say the first three cases of bird flu in the province have been identified among wild birds. The province’s Wildlife Department said Monday the H5N1 strain of avian influenza was confirmed during a surveillance operation in southwestern Quebec. The strain was detected in a Canada goose in Granby, Que., east of Montreal, and in two snow geese in the Montérégie region, located south of Montreal. Quebec authorities say the arrival of the flu was expected as several cases had been identified in both wild and farmed birds in Canada since December 2021, including in the Maritime provinces, Ontario and British Columbia. https://globalnews.ca/news/8734831/quebec-avian-flu-wild-birds-2022/?utm_medium=Twitter&utm_source=%40Global_Montreal Edited September 9, 20224 yr by niman Report

April 5, 20224 yr Author comment_56129 The first three cases of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI), subtype H5N1, have been confirmed in a Canada goose, in Granby, and in two snow geese, one in Saint-Jean-sur-le-Richelieu and the other in Saint-Isidore-de-Laprairie in Montérégie. The cases were identified as part of the provincial avian influenza surveillance program. Cases of HPAI H5N1 were expected in Québec. Several cases of HPAI have been identified among both wild and farmed birds elsewhere in Canada since December 2021, in the Maritime provinces, Ontario and British Columbia, as well as in the United States. This virus has been circulating in Europe since 2020 and wild birds can introduce and spread the virus along their migration routes. https://finance.yahoo.com/news/three-cases-avian-influenza-discovered-184200678.html Report
