MEXICO CITY Mexico has 80 confirmed cases of Zika virus infection cases , transmitted by the mosquito Aedes aegypti, and six of them are pregnant women , reported the Ministry of Health.

The majority of cases were recorded in two entities South Chiapas and Oaxaca, with 45 and 25 people respectively, said the General Directorate of Epidemiology of the Ministry of Health in a statement. in the case of pregnant women , four were recorded in Chiapas, one in Oaxaca and one in the Veracruz state. The report includes indigenous cases confirmed until 12 February. The World Health Organization (WHO) declared the Zika virus as a global health emergency and considered that could affect up to four million people in America. The virus has been linked to an increase in birth defects in Brazil, the most affected country in the region, although no concrete evidence has been found.
