It is the first death due to Covid-19 outside Asia. The patient was an 80-year-old Chinese tourist from Hubei Province.

Agnes Buzyn announced this Saturday the death by "pulmonary infection with the coronavirus" of an 80-year-old patient.

It was "a Chinese tourist from the province of Hubei (the most affected, Editor's note) , had arrived in France on January 16 last. He had been hospitalized at Bichat hospital (in Paris, Editor's note) , with strict isolation measures on January 25. It was the "first death from the coronavirus outside Asia, the first death in Europe," added Agnes Buzyn during her statement.

The patient's daughter, also suffering from Covid-19, "was also taken care of at Bichat hospital. Her state of health is no longer a cause for concern and she should be able to be released soon," the minister also said.

Eleven confirmed cases in France

"We had eleven confirmed cases on the national territory, four patients left including three which were announced this week , a fourth patient, the doctor who was hospitalized at the Pitié-Salpêtrière, also left yesterday so there were four cured and released. (...) There are therefore six hospital patients whose condition does not inspire concern today ", continued Agnès Buzyn.

To date, 67,000 cases of coronavirus have been confirmed worldwide, including more than 66,000 in China, she said. "We must prepare our health system for a possible pandemic spread of the virus," also warned Agnès Buzyn, who said that she would receive representatives of hospital professionals and city health professionals for these purposes next Tuesday.
