The first case of coronavirus in the country confirmed. It is a woman born in 1970 in Skopje. As Health Minister Venko Filipce said at an extraordinary press conference, she returned from Italy this morning, where she had been staying for a month.

He said laboratory tests were performed on the patient's material and that the results showed she was positive for coronavirus.

The woman traveled by van through Tabanovce, then was transported to a Skopje clinic by another domestic vehicle.

 

"There is no room for panic. The plaque is housed at the Infectious Diseases Clinic in Skopje, in the isolation department, treated appropriately for her condition. This gives us the right to think that incubation is long overdue and that there is no danger of transmitting the disease. However, now all passengers traveling with her in the van are being checked and they will be in isolation for 14 days, "Filipce said. He added that the patient had been ill for two weeks.

Filipce appealed to all institutions that have employees traveling to Italy not to hire employees, but to remain at home for 14 days. He said he was in intensive communication with the Greek, Serbian and Kosovo ministers and all measures were being taken.

"There is a quarantine for everyone we know who must have had contact with an infected person," Filipce said.

Dr Zarko Karadzovski said that a team of experts from the Institute of Public Health immediately went to the Infectious Disease Clinic to conduct an epidemiological survey and inspect the person.

"A positive person poses no risk to the rest of the population. I send a reassuring message that there is no room for panic. We are ready to mobilize a team in half an hour and what is important to me - is that we are in control of the situation. We cannot prevent the transfer of people, goods, money and capital, but we have control over the situation, "he said.

Karadzovski said the border police acted in accordance with the protocols, meaning that every person entering the country was asked 6 epidemiological questions and if they reported having certain symptoms of the disease, they were put aside.

The epidemiological service on duty at the Skopje airport, meanwhile, scans with a thermocamera and conducts an epidemiological survey, and the persons with symptoms of the disease are taken away to the isolation room.
