The new   Covid-19 coronavirus already leaves  42,058 cases of contagion in Spain , 35,273 active, after the  death of 2,991 people and the recovery of 3,794 patients , according to data from the Ministry of Health and the autonomous communities. The rapid spread of cases in March has led the Government to request Congress to  extend the state of alarm until April 11 , a mechanism that has been activated for the second time in democracy

The Valencian Community, which confirmed on March 3 the  first death from the virus in Spain , has so far recorded 115 deaths. Since then, 1,535 have been recorded in Madrid, 516 in Catalonia, 216 in Castilla-La Mancha, 165 in Castilla y León, 133 in the Basque Country, 87 in Andalusia, 37 in Aragon, 31 in Navarra, 30 in La Rioja, 26 in Extremadura, 21 in Galicia, 25 in Asturias, 21 in the Canary Islands, 16 in the Balearic Islands, nine in Cantabria and six in Murcia.

The Community of Madrid accumulates the highest number of confirmed cases with 12,352. They are followed by Catalonia (9,937), the Basque Country (2,728), Andalusia (2,471), Castilla-La Mancha (2,465) and Castilla y León (2,460). 2,167 cases have been identified in the Valencian Community, 1,415 in Galicia, 1,014 in Navarra, 802 in La Rioja, 758 cases in Aragon, 779 in Asturias, 636 in Extremadura, 657 cases in the Canary Islands, 478 in the Balearic Islands, 425 in Cantabria , 477 in Murcia -one of them a five-month-old baby- and 28 in Melilla. Ceuta confirmed its first case on Sunday March 15 and accumulates nine positives.

The coronavirus currently has a cumulative incidence in the population of Spain of  80.91 cases per 100,000 inhabitants  and the number of cured represents 10.14% of the total cases. At least  2,636 people are admitted to the ICU , almost 40% in the Community of Madrid (1,050), and all those infected are isolated. Health highlights that there is a commitment to incorporate four robots, which  could perform up to 80,000 tests per day  in Spain.

While  deaths and infections are receding in China , the spread of the virus to the rest of the planet  already exceeds 415,000 infected in 185 countries.  In Europe, which  has decreed the closure of its borders for 30 days to contain the virus  Italy is the first country with the highest number of cases  and the second in the world, followed by Spain, second at European level and fourth on a global scale.

Madrid's community

The  Community of Madrid  accumulates  12,352 positive cases and 1,535 deaths.  The ages of the deceased who have been reported range from 73 to 99 years. Meanwhile, the number of recovered is almost 2,300, as reported by the Ministry of Health.

The capital also  registers the contagion of minors:  at least a four-year-old girl and  a case diagnosed in the private school where Princess Leonor and Infanta Sofia study. One of the sources of contagion is in  Torrejón de Ardoz . Several politicians have tested positive: Isabel Díaz Ayuso, the former president Esperanza Aguirre, or the leaders of Vox Santiago Abascal, who claims to have overcome it in a week, and Javier Ortega Smith.

Basque Country

There are  2,728 cases  in the three provinces and, to date, the Basque Country Health Department   has confirmed  133 deaths 

Catalonia

Catalonia  is one of the communities with the highest number of confirmed infections:  9,937 people.  There have been  516 deaths , at least 29 of them in the municipality of Igualada (Barcelona), one of the main outbreaks in the region with more than 200 positive cases, including 140 from toilets. The President of the Generalitat,  Quim Torra , has tested positive.

The Rioja

La Rioja  accumulates  802 positives and 30 deaths . 95% of the detected cases  are in home isolation, many of them in  Haro . The  first coronavirus death in this community  occurred on March 10: an elderly woman with previous multiple pathologies. There is also a person who has been discharged.

Valencian Community

In the  Valencian Community  , 2,167 positive cases have been diagnosed  in the three provinces . In Valencia  the first death of a man occurred on February 13  and in the following weeks a total of 115 deaths have been confirmed  . The first case in the community was detected in Castellón, a young man from Burriana who had been in Milan and was discharged on March 6. 

Andalusia

Andalusia  has detected  2,471 cases of Covid-19 in all the provinces of the region and 87 deaths,  including a 21-year-old man with leukemia. Among the isolates is a nurse from Arjonilla (Jaén) who attended one of the patients in Torrejón de Ardoz (Madrid). 

For its part,  Gibraltar  (United Kingdom)  confirmed on March 5 the contagion of a person who had returned from northern Italy through the Malaga airport. 

Castilla y León

Castilla y León  has detected  2,460 infections and 165 deaths The first death was known in Salamanca on March 12,  an 81-year-old man, with previous pathologies. 

Castilla la Mancha

Castilla-La Mancha  totals  2,465 confirmed cases  in all its provinces. Among them are  three children between the ages of four and 11.  In addition, there are  216 deceased people , including  an 82-year-old woman who died with a coronavirus in Albacete.  At least fifteen people have been discharged.

Aragon

In  Aragon  there are  758 positive cases  in the three provinces and  37 deaths. The first, that of an 87-year-old man who was admitted in serious condition at the Hospital Nuestra Señora de Gracia in Zaragoza. 

Canary Islands

La Gomera was the first Spanish territory to detect the new coronavirus in February. In total,  657 cases have been diagnosed in  at least Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Gomera, Fuerteventura, La Palma and Lanzarote. In total there have been  21 deaths on the islands . On March 13 the first death in the  Canary Islands was known : a woman over 80 years old in Gran Canaria with previous pathologies.

Cantabria

Cantabria  accumulates  425 confirmed cases , of which  12 have been discharged .  The case of a woman who became infected in the Basque Country stands out, who remains isolated at home and belongs to a group of cases associated with only one, the so-called 'cluster'. In addition,  nine deaths  have been reported in the region . The first was on March 17: an 88-year-old man with previous pathology and bilateral pneumonia in Valdecilla.

Balearic Islands

In the  Balearic Islands  there are 478 cases  between Mallorca, Menorca and Ibiza. The archipelago confirmed the first coronavirus death in this region on March 12, and the total figure has risen to  16 deaths  since then. So far,  19 people have been discharged,  the first in mid-February .

Asturias

Asturias  has  779 cases  of coronavirus. There have been 25 deaths  in this region: among them, a 68-year-old man, head of studies at one of the educational centers that have suspended activity due to the outbreak; a 95-year-old woman; an 85-year-old man, an 88-year-old; an 81-year-old woman and a 66-year-old man also with previous pathologies. Thirty people have been discharged.

Estremadura

Extremadura  has  636 positive cases and 26 deceased . Four of the patients had previously traveled to Italy and some are part of the health personnel of different centers. The autonomous community reported the first death with coronavirus on March 11. 

Another important focus in Extremadura has been located in Arroyo de la Luz (Cáceres), a town that was isolated before the declaration of the state of alarm and where 71 infections and four deaths from the total are recorded.

Galicia

Galicia  accumulates  1,415 cases  in Pontevedra, A Coruña, Ourense and Lugo. The first was detected on March 4: a 49-year-old man from A Coruña who had traveled to Madrid. So far 21 deaths have been reported  and six people have recovered. 

Navarre

In  Navarra  ,  1,014 cases and 31 deaths have been confirmed  the first being that of an 87-year-old woman who had been admitted since March 12, and the rest are in an age range of 69 to 91 years.

Murcia

In  Murcia  there are  477 cases . The first was that of a 27-year-old woman who traveled to Madrid, while the second case is a  five-month-old baby  with mild symptoms whose mother has also tested positive. So far, six deaths and four discharges have been reported  . The first was registered on March 20: a 70-year-old man with previous pathologies.

Melilla

In the Autonomous City of  Melilla  , 28 cases have been registered  . Part of the cases have been isolated in the Regional Hospital, in accordance with the protocols established by the Ministry of Health. 

Ceuta 

The Autonomous City of  Ceuta  was  the last to confirm the first case in the city , in the case of a student who arrived from Madrid. Since then,  nine cases have been recorded in total.
