Two new imported Zika cases in S. China(Xinhua) South China's Guangdong Province reported two new Zika cases Friday, bringing the total number of imported infections in the province to 10. Two sisters aged 12 and 13 tested positive for the Zika virus Tuesday in Enping City, the provincial health and family planning commission said. The case involves a 19-year-old man who lives in Venezuela. He arrived at Hong Kong International Airport on February 29 and shortly later on the same day travelled to Enping, Jiangmen, Guangdong, by bus via Shenzhen Bay Control Point. He remained afebrile during his travel. He developed a rash on March 9 and subsequently was laboratory confirmed to be an imported case of Zika Virus Infection by the Health and Family Planning Commission of Guangdong Province. The patient is now hospitalised for isolation and management and is in stable condition. Jiangxi Province Center for Disease Control and Prevention has released a partial sequence, Jiangxi.CHN/01/2016, from the first reported case infected in Venezuela. http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/nuccore/KU867812 The partial sequence exactly matches many of the prior sequences from the Americas, in contrast to sequences from the serum, urine,and saliva from this patient. However,all such sequences are closely related to each other and trace back to the 2013/2014 sequences from French Polynesia.

Beijing: China has confirmed a new imported Zika case, bringing the total number to six, the authorities announced on Friday. The National Health and Family Planning Commission said that the patient, a 42-year-old woman from east Zhejiang province, was bitten by mosquitoes while working in Suriname in South America, Xinhua news agency reported. She returned to China on Sunday and developed an itchy rash but no fever on her way back, according to the commission. She was confirmed positive on Friday. The 40-year-old man from Jiangmen City in south China’s Guangdong Province returned from Venezuela with his family on February 25. His two children tested positive for the virus on February 27, according to the Guangdong Provincial Health and Family Planning Commission. Guangdong Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention has released a full sequence from the saliva, GDZ16001, collected on February 12 from a Guangzhou traveler returning from Venezuela. The saliva sequence was virtually identical to a serum sample, GD01,from the same patient.
