The Nevada Department of Wildlife says that the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza is currently active within the wild bird population in Southern Nevada. "Both domestic and wild geese at Sunset Park have shown symptoms of the disease, and some have died," the department said. WASHINGTON, [July 8, 2022] – The United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Animal and Plant Health Inspection Service (APHIS) has confirmed the presence of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) in a non-commercial backyard flock (non-poultry) in Carson City, Nevada. Samples from the flock were tested at the APHIS National Veterinary Services Laboratories in Ames, Iowa.
