  1. Virus spreads to more Chinese cities, President Xi says containment is priority Se Young Lee, Colin Qian 4 MIN READ BEIJING (Reuters) - An outbreak of a new coronavirus has spread to more Chinese cities, including the capital Beijing and Shanghai, national and local authorities confirmed on Monday, and a fourth case has been reported beyond China’s borders. President Xi Jinping said curbing the outbreak and saving lives was a top priority as the number of patients more than tripled and a third person died. Adding to the difficulties of containing the virus, hundreds of millions of Chinese will be traveling domestically and abroad during the Lunar New Year holiday that starts this week. RELATED COVERAGE Risk to UK of new coronavirus is currently 'very low': infection service Factbox: New coronavirus outbreak spreads in China Authorities around the globe, including in the United States and many Asian countries, have stepped up screening of travelers from Wuhan, the central city where the virus was first discovered. “Wuhan is a major hub and with travel being a huge part of the fast approaching Chinese New Year, the concern level must remain high. There is more to come from this outbreak,” said Jeremy Farrar, a specialist in infectious disease epidemics and director of the Wellcome Trust global health charity. Authorities confirmed a total of 217 new cases of the virus in China as of 6 p.m. local time (1000 GMT) on Monday, state television reported, 198 of which were in Wuhan. Five new cases were confirmed in Beijing and 14 more in Guangdong province, the report said. Another statement confirmed a new case in Shanghai, bringing the number of known cases worldwide to 222. “People’s lives and health should be given top priority and the spread of the outbreak should be resolutely curbed,” President Xi was quoted as saying by state television. The virus belongs to the same family of coronaviruses as Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which killed nearly 800 people globally during a 2002/03 outbreak that also started in China. Its symptoms include fever and difficulty in breathing, which are similar to many other respiratory diseases and pose complications for screening efforts. REUTERS/Stringer BEYOND BORDERS South Korea on Monday confirmed its first case, a 35-year-old Chinese national who had traveled from Wuhan, the fourth patient reported outside China. Last week, two cases were reported in Thailand and one in Japan. All three involved people from Wuhan or who recently visited the city. A report by London Imperial College’s MRC Centre for Global Infectious Disease Analysis estimated that by Jan. 12 there were 1,723 cases in Wuhan City with onset of related symptoms. Chinese health authorities have not commented directly on the report. “This outbreak is extremely concerning. Uncertainty and gaps remain, but it is now clear that there is person to person transmission,” Farrar said. The World Health Organization said on Monday “an animal source” appeared most likely to be the primary source of the outbreak and that some “limited human-to-human transmission” occurred between close contacts. China’s state council reiterated the government will step up prevention efforts and find the source of infection and transmission channels as soon as possible, state television said on Monday. Shares in pharmaceutical firms and mask makers in China surged Monday because of the outbreak. Slideshow (4 Images) “Who knows how many people who have been to Wuhan may be unaware that they have already been infected?,” said one commentator on Chinese social media platform Weibo The state-run Global Times newspaper said in an editorial the government needs to disclose all information and not repeat the mistakes made with SARS. Chinese officials covered up the SARS outbreak for weeks before a growing death toll and rumours forced it to reveal the epidemic. “Concealment would be a serious blow to the government’s credibility and might trigger greater social panic,” the editorial said. Photo: Weibo The previously unknown coronavirus infection that has killed three people in the Chinese city of Wuhan may be moving by human-to-human transmission, with infections reported in other parts of the country and overseas, according to the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other doctors. The WHO stressed the need for countries to undertake “preparedness activities”, such as public announcements and ensuring ample testing and treatment supplies, and continuing to share information to help the international response. The advisory came as Chinese President Xi Jinping called on officials to do everything they could to prevent the disease from spreading. State broadcaster CCTV quoted Xi as saying that the virus must be “resolutely contained” and “the safety of people’s lives and their physical health should be given top priority”. Premier Li Keqiang also announced the creation of a national leading group to coordinate the fight against the disease. The virus, which causes pneumonia-like symptoms and had sickened 218 people in China as of Monday night, is thought to have originated in a seafood and animal meat market in Wuhan in the central province of Hubei. The WHO has not changed its earlier advice that it did not see grounds to restrict travel to or trade with China. SUBSCRIBE LUNAR Get updates direct to your inbox SUBMIT By registering, you agree to our T&C and Privacy Policy The WHO China office said a team of experts was meeting officials in Wuhan to discuss the outbreak. “The mission is part of ongoing information sharing between the government of China and the WHO,” a spokesman said. In statements via Twitter earlier on Monday, the WHO said: “An animal source seems the most likely primary source of this novel coronavirus outbreak, with some limited human-to-human transmission occurring between close contacts.” Wuhan medical authorities said on Monday that a third patient had died from the infection at a hospital in the city, while also announcing a jump of more than 130 new cases alone over the weekend, taking Wuhan’s total to 198. China reports third death from Wuhan virus and new cases of the mystery illness in other cities The number of new cases showed there was human-to-human transmission, Guan Yi, director of the State Key Laboratory of Emerging Infectious Diseases at the University of Hong Kong, Beijing-based news outlet Caixin reported on Monday. “I admit that the virus did not pass from person to person in the early stage, but the situation has evolved for more than a month, and the number of new cases has risen. ‘Human-to-human’ is no longer a word game,” Guan was quoted as saying. Guan’s work led to the identification of the severe acute respiratory syndrome (Sars) coronavirus, which killed more than 700 people around the world in a 2002-03 outbreak that originated in China, according to the university’s website. “The virus’ ability to spread and adapt to the population, as well as its onset and pathogenicity, is similar to the way Sars developed in the early stage,” Guan said in the Caixin report. “I hope we can learn from the lessons of Sars and hope we don’t approach prevention and control of the [current] situation in a similar way as Sars, otherwise it will negatively affect people and the world.” University of Hong Kong microbiologist Ho Pak-leung said the transmission methods and origins of the new cases on the mainland had not been disclosed. “That means it’s likely that those cases were spread through limited human-to-human transmission, which has some connection with the movement of people,” Ho said. “Wuhan’s top travel destinations are Bangkok, Hong Kong and Tokyo. With imported cases reported in two of those three cities, it is only a matter of time for Hong Kong to have a [confirmed] case.” Ho also welcomed the new measures unveiled by the Hong Kong government on Monday, which include health declaration forms at the airport for visitors arriving on direct flights from Wuhan, and a requirement for local doctors to report suspected cases among people who have visited Hubei – and not just Wuhan – in the last 14 days. Wuhan pneumonia: how the search for the source of the mystery illness unfolded 20 Jan 2020 China’s National Health Commission said five people in Beijing had been confirmed as infected , along with one in Shanghai and 14 in Guangdong, a province bordering Hong Kong. Another six people throughout the country were suspected as having the virus. Meanwhile, Taiwanese health authorities said a one-year-old boy suspected of having the virus was being treated in a hospital isolation ward. “Doctors have already sent the samples of the pathogen for testing, and the results will be known within days,” a spokeswoman for the Taiwan Centres for Disease Control said. Wuhan outbreak: Thailand confirms first case of virus outside China Reports that the virus was spreading raised particular concern with hundreds of millions of people travelling across China this week for the Lunar New Year holiday. Wuhan itself has a population of about 11 million people – more than New York or London – and is one of the country’s major rail hubs. The Chinese Centre for Disease Control and Prevention said on Saturday that the infection was “preventable and controllable”. The virus was not Sars, the centre said on Saturday. The WHO’s comments about some limited human-to-human transmission in the Wuhan virus is a shift from previous statements in which the body and China’s health authorities said they had found no evidence of human-to-human transmission but could not rule it out. In a written response to the South China Morning Post early on Monday, the WHO China office said there was “no clear evidence of sustained human-to-human transmission” and it had no information on medical staff being infected by the virus. “To date, Chinese authorities have reported no infections among health care workers, which is an indicator used to ascertain the transmissibility of a disease (or the degree to which a disease is contagious), as health care workers are among the more exposed groups,” it said. Wuhan virus: three US airports to screen passengers from China for deadly coronavirus outbreak 18 Jan 2020 The WHO said China had reported 139 new cases of the coronavirus to the organisation over the previous two days. The agency attributed the jump to “increased searching and testing” for the virus among people showing symptoms of respiratory illness. Confirmation of infections in other cities in China came as several countries and regions in Asia reported finding the virus in visitors since the Wuhan medical authorities first raised the alert on December 30 about what was then a mystery illness. South Korea confirmed on Monday that a woman who had arrived from Wuhan had the virus. Two Chinese tourists in Thailand and a Chinese man working in Japan had previously been confirmed as infected. Authorities in Singapore, Vietnam, Nepal, Hong Kong and Taiwan have said they are monitoring a number of suspected cases. No deaths have been reported overseas among the infected. China identifies new coronavirus behind Wuhan pneumonia outbreak The US on Friday began screening travellers from Wuhan at airports in San Francisco, New York and Los Angeles. “I think that this is a situation where we’re going to see additional cases all around the world as people look for it more,” Nancy Messonnier, director of the US’ National Centre for Immunisation and Respiratory Diseases, a branch of the Centres for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), said on Saturday. “I think it’s highly plausible that there will be at least a case in the United States, and that’s the reason we’re moving forward so quickly with this screening,” she said, adding that the threat to the general public was “low”. In its statement, the WHO said it “is proposing studies on the novel coronavirus that can be done in China and elsewhere to better understand transmission, risk factors and where the virus is”. “These studies take time and resources” it said, noting that some of these studies were already under way. Messonnier, at the CDC, said: “We don’t have all the information at the level of detail that our scientists would prefer. You know CDC scientists, and we, want to see every titbit of data ourselves, and that’s not the situation we’re in right now. We are in more of a waiting mode, waiting to see what our colleagues from China are releasing.” Wuhan’s health authorities said the city’s third death from the virus had occurred on Saturday, and reported 59 new infections on Saturday and 77 on Sunday. The two infected people in Beijing had recently travelled to Wuhan, according to the Daxing district health committee. They were under quarantine in hospital and in a stable condition, The Beijing News reported. People who had come into close contact with the two patients were under medical observation and had not had fever-like symptoms, the local health authority said. The health authority for Shenzhen in the southern province of Guangdong said its first confirmed case was a 66-year-old man. He had visited relatives in Wuhan at the end of last month and developed fever and fatigue on January 3. He went to a doctor in Shenzhen the next day, then was admitted to hospital, where he was quarantined, on January 11. His condition was stable and the authority was monitoring people who had been in close contact with him, the authority said. The Zhejiang health authority said that the five patients it had reported as showing symptoms had recently visited Wuhan. In Malaysia, authorities were on “high alert” for the disease, with response teams at all international arrival entry points. 3. Why was 136 cases of new coronavirus pneumonia newly diagnosed in Wuhan in two days? The reason is here The Beijing News expresses that on the afternoon of the 20th, the popular cloud platform of the Chinese Academy of Sciences answered "Why so many confirmed cases suddenly increased?" Because there is a virus nucleic acid detection kit. At a press conference held by the Wuhan Municipal Health and Health Committee in the early morning of the 19th, Huang Chaolin, an expert from the Hubei Provincial Medical Group, deputy director and chief physician of Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital, answered a reporter's question and said, "Unknown viral pneumonia in Wuhan was identified After the new coronavirus infection, relevant national scientific research institutions quickly developed viral nucleic acid detection kits, and then optimized the technology. On January 16, after the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention received the kits issued by the state, it began testing Wuhan Specimens from patients with unexplained viral pneumonia submitted for testing for pathogenicity in the city. "The nucleic acid detection kit can quickly determine whether the presence of specific gene sequences in the sample of the case by PCR method, for different viruses, different development can be developed Nucleic acid detection kit. However, this test needs to be based on a known virus, that is, a known virus is equivalent to having an ID card, and a sample of the case can be judged only by comparison. The pathogen this time is a new type of coronavirus. Since it has not appeared before, we do not have its "identity card", so we cannot quickly determine it. Recently, relevant national scientific research institutions quickly developed a viral nucleic acid detection kit. After receiving the nationally issued kit, the Hubei Provincial Center for Disease Control and Prevention began to conduct pathogenic testing on specimens of patients with unexplained viral pneumonia submitted for inspection in Wuhan. This is the case of "suddenly so many cases". According to previous reports, in the early morning of January 20, the Wuhan Municipal Health and Health Commission notified the pneumonia of the new coronavirus infection. According to the report, on January 18 and 19, 136 cases of pneumonia with new coronavirus infection were newly confirmed. http://www.bjnews.com.cn/news/2020/01/20/677020.html

Preventing unidentified pneumonia in Wuhan from entering the United States. VOA reports that passengers of China Southern Airlines Flight 8419 ( direct flights from Wuhan to New York ) arrived at JFK International Airport in New York at more than 10 pm on Friday, becoming the first group to be tested. Miss Yuan, who came out with her luggage, talked about the inspection process and said, "It's just that the crew will send a form on the plane, and then she will ask you to fill in some basic information." Then, take the form to take a test after getting off the plane. Body temperature, "If it is normal, go straight." Another passenger, Mr. Liu, said, "There is information about whether you have been to Wuhan and your personal information." After getting off the plane, he could leave without any abnormalities. Mr Howard, who was in transit with his wife and three children in Wuhan, also said, "(The detection process) is very simple and very easy to pass. Just fill in your symptoms, your information, and take your temperature; just 15 minutes." The health authority of Wuhan City, China, reported on January 17 that as of the 16th, four new cases of pneumonia caused by new coronavirus infection had been reported. There are currently 45 cases, of which 15 were cured, 5 were discharged, and 2 died. When asked about the local people ’s response to pneumonia in Wuhan, Ms. Yuan, who lives in Wuhan, said, “Someone is scared. Someone wears a mask. I brought a mask when I went to the (airport), but most people have n’t Dai. "She said that everyone was" more afraid of being infected ". Mr Liu's statement is different. He said: "I feel okay in Wuhan. That's what it says, but everyone feels that the condition is not serious, and going out to pay attention to protective measures should not be a big problem." At present, there are at least three confirmed cases of Wuhan pneumonia outside China, one in Kanagawa, Japan, and two in Bangkok, Thailand. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Friday that the test is currently targeted only at travelers from Wuhan, China. The center expects an increase in passenger traffic from Wuhan around the Chinese New Year. U.S. officials estimate that the number of passengers from Wuhan to the three international airports in the United States in the next two weeks will be about 5,000. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention says the risk of the virus entering the United States is not high, but precautions must be taken. http://www.epochtimes.com/gb/20/1/18/n11803040.htm

Wuhan Zeng 17 confirmed the diagnosis of some non-contact seafood city Shenzhen is now suspected cases Figure 3-1-When the staff member took the elders into the infectious disease building, there was a staff member wearing full protective equipment in the elevator.... (Photo by Ming Pao reporter) [Ming Pao News] The number of confirmed new coronaviruses in Wuhan has soared. The Wuhan Health and Medical Commission announced at 17:43 this morning that 17 new cases were reported. Some had no history of contact with South China Seafood City, and the total number of patients rose to 62. At the same time, the latest epidemic situation is more likely to be closer to Hong Kong. This newspaper has received two independent sources indicating that suspected cases have occurred in Shenzhen and are being tested. It is also reported that the designated hospital for infectious diseases and Shenzhen Third People's Hospital are receiving patients with Wuhan pneumonia. The hospital was waiting for it. Yesterday, some staff members wore protective clothing from head to toe to accompany the same person into the "infectious disease building", which specifically isolated related patients in Wuhan. The staff of the hospital said that the national information "will not be announced" whether there are confirmed patients. News: Some patients in Shenzhen are doing new virus tests Regarding whether the Shenzhen epidemic was notified, a spokesman for the Hong Kong Department of Health said yesterday that the Centre for Health Protection had not received the relevant notification from the National Health and Health Commission until yesterday. This newspaper received two independent news, both of which pointed out that patients were being tested for the new coronavirus in Shenzhen, and it was reported that the patients were concentrated in Shenzhen Third People's Hospital (Third Hospital). The hospital is a top three infectious disease general hospital, with two key specialties of Shenzhen tuberculosis and emerging infectious diseases, and relying on the CUHK (Shenzhen) Infectious Diseases Research Center, the Hong Kong University National Key Laboratory of Infectious Diseases Shenzhen Branch, etc. It became the designated hospital to receive patients when the H7N9 avian flu broke out in the Mainland. Our reporter went to the hospital for observation yesterday afternoon. At about 4.30pm, I saw a staff member wearing a white protective clothing and mask from head to toe near the infected building in the hospital. There was an old man wearing a mask and crutches behind his back. Slowly follow the staff towards the "Infectious Disease Building". When the old man went upstairs, another staff member wearing full protective equipment and a face mask was outside the building elevator lobby and pulled up the blockade line with ice cream cones and tape. After entering the elevator lobby for disinfection for about 5 minutes, the blockade line was lifted. On the 4th floor of the Infectious Diseases Building, there is a nurse's station at the entrance of the "Infectious Diseases Division 3". There are about three or four nurses with full-body protective equipment. The old man sent the infected building to block and disinfect for 5 minutes As seen in the hospital area, all staff members wear masks. Fever clinic and emergency department staff also wear blue protective clothing and caps. They also wear masks. Some people wear white gloves. However, only a small number of outpatients wear masks. The reporter told the emergency room reception staff that there was a sore throat and cough. The staff then asked the reporter whether they had been to Wuhan, had contact with birds, or had a fever. The reporter said that they did not. The staff took out the probe of the probe and asked for heat to be diverted. . In addition, as a family member of the patient, the reporter told the staff yesterday that the family member had entered the isolation ward because of fever and suspected pneumonia, and the staff asked whether it was a Wuhan patient, and told the reporter that all patients from Wuhan with fever Enter the "Infectious Diseases 3 Division" isolation ward on the 4th floor of the Infectious Diseases Building. The reporter asked if a new coronavirus was diagnosed on the floor, and the staff responded "you don't need to ask anything else." Ask if there is a confirmed staff: National information will not be released This newspaper called the Third Hospital yesterday to inquire about the identity of the family members of patients suspected of being infected with the new virus, and said that they expected to be transferred to the hospital. A male staff member said that the hospital was the designated hospital in Shenzhen to receive confirmed patients. Referrals from the health department, "No casual referrals, we have a plan." When asked whether the hospital was treating several confirmed patients, the staff member said that the country information was "not to be released" and said that he did not know the situation. This newspaper later called the hospital as a reporter to inquire about whether it had accepted suspected or confirmed patients. The male staff member said, "I can't tell you that our system is different. You can only say that you have a confirmed diagnosis." The reporter asked whether there were any confirmed cases. He said he was not clear and asked the leader. Some hospitals say those diagnosed must be transferred to a third hospital Shenzhen Nanshan People's Hospital received a woman with severe pneumonia last week, which said it was ruled out of infection with the new coronavirus. The newspaper called the hospital yesterday and asked if the family members could be treated with the new virus if they were diagnosed with the infection. Staff said that the confirmed patients must be transferred to the third hospital. Since the day before yesterday, this newspaper has inquired through Guangdong Province and Shenzhen Municipal Health and Health Commission via email and telephone whether there are suspected patients, and no reply has been received. The reporter called the Publicity Office of the Shenzhen Municipal Health and Medical Commission yesterday to inquire whether the third hospital had received patients with suspected or confirmed new coronavirus. The staff said that the Publicity Office was not authorized to release the information on the epidemic situation. If there is news, it will be issued by the State or Guangdong Health Commission. The reporter then called the head of the Publicity Department of the Guangdong Health and Health Commission and the Guangzhou Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, but no one answered. https://news.mingpao.com/pns/港聞/article/20200119/s00002/1579370865424/武漢增17確診-部分無接觸海鮮城-深圳現懷疑個案-定點醫院嚴陣戒備

  16. China reports new virus cases, raising concern globally before key holiday Se Young Lee, Hallie Gu 4 MIN READ BEIJING (Reuters) - China reported four more cases of pneumonia believed to be caused by a new coronavirus strain, causing rising concern globally that a disease health officials do not yet fully understand could spread during a key holiday period. The new virus, which was discovered in the central Chinese city of Wuhan, belongs in the same large family of coronaviruses that includes Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS), which killed nearly 800 people globally during a 2002/03 outbreak that also started in China. Though experts say the new virus does not appear to be as lethal as SARS, there is little known about its origins and how easily it can spread. Thailand and Japan have confirmed new cases of the virus earlier this week, stoking worries globally as many of the 1.4 billion Chinese people will travel abroad during the Lunar New Year holidays that begin next week. Authorities around the world including in the United States, Thailand and South Korea have stepped up monitoring of travelers from Wuhan as part of their efforts to prevent the disease from spreading. The World Health Organization (WHO) has also warned that a wider outbreak is possible, though it has advised against any travel restrictions for China. The Wuhan Municipal Health Commission (WMHC) said on Saturday the four new individuals diagnosed with the new virus are in stable condition, adding it has confirmed 45 cases in the city as of Thursday. A day earlier, the commission confirmed the death of a second patient. Nearly 50 people are now known to have been infected globally, but all of them either live in Wuhan or have traveled to the city. A report published by the London Imperial College’s MRC Center for Global Infectious Disease Analysis said there are likely “substantially more cases” of the new coronavirus than currently announced by Wuhan authorities: its base scenario estimate is that there would be 1,723 cases showing onset of related symptoms by Jan. 12. The WMHC referred Reuters queries about the report to the National Health Commission (NHC) and the Hubei provincial government, but the NHC and the Hubei government did not immediately respond to Reuters requests for comment. Wuhan is the capital of Hubei province. FILE PHOTO: International travelers arrive at John F. Kennedy international airport in New York City, U.S., February 4, 2017. REUTERS/Brendan McDermid SCREENING U.S. authorities have said they would start screening at three airports to detect travelers arriving via direct or connecting flights from Wuhan who may have symptoms of the new virus. In Asia, authorities in Singapore, South Korea, Taiwan and Thailand have stepped up monitoring of passengers from Wuhan at airports. Indonesia, Malaysia and the Philippines say they have strengthened screening at all points of entry in response to the outbreak, as well. But Alexandra Phelan, global health legal expert at Georgetown University’s Center for Global Health Science and Security, said such screening may be insufficient in preventing the virus from spreading as its symptoms, which include fever, cough and difficulty in breathing, are “quite general”. “There are likely to be many individuals with matching symptoms due to an illness that is not 2019-nCoV,” Phelan said, referring to the new virus. 17. Virus casts shadow over China's biggest festival, but little worry at epicenter Cate Cadell 5 MIN READ BEIJING (Reuters) - Health authorities are concerned that a virus originating in central China could spread when hundreds of millions of Chinese travel during next week’s lunar new year festival, but residents said there were was little anxiety in the city at the epicenter. FILE PHOTO: File picture of passengers waiting to board trains at Shanghai's Hongqiao Railway Station as the annual Spring Festival travel rush begins ahead of the Chinese Lunar New Year in Shanghai, China February 12, 2018. REUTERS/Aly Song/File Photo Chinese officials are cracking down on those who spread news about the disease online, some people said. As of Friday, two people in the city of Wuhan had died following an outbreak of pneumonia linked to a new strain of coronavirus that authorities suspect originated in a seafood market. Wuhan’s health authority said on Saturday that a further four people were confirmed to have the virus, bringing the total number of known cases to almost 50. Two cases have been reported in Thailand and one in Japan, all people who had traveled from Wuhan recently. A report published by London’s Imperial College said there could be as many as 1,723 infections in Wuhan city alone. “It is likely that the Wuhan outbreak of a novel coronavirus has caused substantially more cases of moderate or severe respiratory illness than currently reported,” said the report. “Self-sustaining human-to-human transmission should not be ruled out.” Chinese officials did not immediately respond to requests for comment. Currently the World Health Organisation and Wuhan health authorities have not concluded that the virus can be passed from person to person. According to official statistics released on Saturday, 763 people who came in contact with victims were identified by authorities, and 98 remain under observation. The United States and most Asian countries have stepped up screenings of travelers from Wuhan and the WHO has warned hospitals worldwide that a wider outbreak is possible. In 2002/03, the SARS virus which originated in China killed nearly 800 people worldwide. People in Wuhan who spoke to Reuters said that while many are reviewing travel plans as a precaution, general anxiety over the virus is low. Businesses are operating normally in the city, which has a population of over 8 million, they said. Gyms, pools, transport hubs and food markets contacted by Reuters said they had not made changes or taken extra precautions. More than 400 million Chinese people are expected to make 3 billion trips over the new year beginning on January 24, mostly migrant workers returning to their home towns. However, many Chinese also use the holiday to go overseas. A person who works for China’s official train ticketing service told Reuters on Friday that there were no additional health screening measures or temperature checks in place at Wuhan train stations. ANXIOUS Since Wednesday, people traveling from Wuhan’s Tianhe International airport have been subject to temperature tests before boarding flights, according to an official notice. Two flight attendants staffing separate domestic flights in and out of the city said they had not received additional training or warnings about the virus. But people who have been affected are worried. “I look at a public handrail or food or people standing close together and it makes me feel anxious,” said a 33-year-old woman surnamed Peng, who lives roughly one km (a half-mile) from the seafood market where the virus is suspected to have originated and says her elderly aunt was hospitalized with flu-like symptoms late last week. Slideshow (2 Images) The illness is not a confirmed case of coronavirus, she told Reuters by phone, but two relatives canceled plans to visit the pair for the new year. Peng declined to share her full name because hospital authorities and police have warned Wuhan residents against speaking about the virus online or to media. “There is no holiday for me ... only worry,” she said. One woman, whose elderly parents have been hospitalized with flu-like conditions, said she had been ordered to take full precautions even though her parents were not confirmed to have been infected by the virus. “I can only deliver food to the door. We can’t get in, we can’t see each other, and we can only talk by phone,” she said of her visits to the hospital. “We wear two layers of masks every day, we don’t go to crowded places, and we disinfect and wash our hands.” As the number of new cases continues to rise, locals say authorities are cracking down on people who post online information on the virus or sick relatives. Earlier this month, state media said eight people had been “dealt with according to law” in cases related to sharing information about the virus on social media. Two people told Reuters they had been ordered by police to remove social media posts. They declined to share their names. Several source who spoke to Reuters said admittance departments at hospitals in Wuhan were unusually busy and many people with flu symptoms were told to return home. “People are scared,” said Peng. “Most people maybe have a regular flu or cold… but where is the person who takes that chance?” https://www.reuters.com/article/us-china-health-wuhan/virus-casts-shadow-over-chinas-biggest-festival-but-little-worry-at-epicenter-idUSKBN1ZH05Q

(Photo by Ming Pao reporter) This newspaper received two independent news, both pointing out that a suspected case of a new coronavirus has occurred in Shenzhen, and some patients are being tested. One of them said that the patient was being treated in isolation at Shenzhen Third People's Hospital. A reporter from this newspaper went to the above hospital this afternoon (18th) and found that the hospital is waiting for it. At about 4.30 am, the reporter was near the infectious disease building of the hospital. A staff member was wearing a white protective clothing and a face mask from head to toe. There was an elder wearing a mask and crutches behind him. Infectious disease building. When the elders came upstairs, another staff member wearing full protective equipment and a face mask immediately outside the building's elevator lobby, pulled up the blockade line with ice cream cones and tape. After entering the elevator lobby for disinfection, the blockade line was lifted for about 5 minutes. It is said to be used to isolate the "Infection 3 Division" on the 4th floor of the Infectious Diseases Building, which is used to isolate related patients in Wuhan. The entrance is a nurse station. The CHP responded that it had not received any notification from the National Health Commission so far. The center will continue to maintain contact with the National Health Commission and the World Health Organization to closely monitor the situation. https://news.mingpao.com/ins/港聞/article/20200118/s00001/1579357956488/【武漢肺炎】深圳現懷疑個案-第三人民醫院嚴陣戒備
  19. "SARS has not disappeared, but has been parasitic in bats?" Official rumors! Observer Network 01-18 21:52 Wuhan mysterious disease is a new SARS virus? Wuhan pneumonia and SARS are as similar as 90%? SARS has been parasitic in bats? Just now, China CDC For Wuhan Viral Pneumonia Five big rumors to dispel rumors! Rumor One Mysterious disease outbreak in Wuhan has been confirmed as a new SARS virus In response, the China CDC stated that the pathogen causing Wuhan's "mysterious virus" was identified as a new type of coronavirus, not a SARS virus. Rumor Two Wuhan new virus is 73% similar to SARS, Wuhan new coronavirus gene sequence is 80% similar to SARS virus; Wuhan pneumonia and SARS are up to 90% similar. The Chinese Centers for Disease Control and Prevention stated that the similarity of the virus genes cannot be equated with the similar pathogenicity of the virus. Although the new coronavirus and SARS and MERS coronaviruses belong to the same family of coronaviruses, genetic evolution analysis showed that It belongs to different subgroup branches, it is not SARS or MERS virus, and their viral gene sequences are quite different. Rumor Three There have been several cases in our hospital and they have been closely isolated. Very scary, it is said that 80% is SARS. The China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that coronaviruses are very common in nature and are divided into many types. The damage caused by them is also very different. The pathogen that caused the viral pneumonia in Wuhan is a new coronavirus, which is different from SARS virus. Isolation and treatment of infectious disease patients is a requirement of the "Law of the People's Republic of China on the Prevention and Control of Infectious Diseases", which is responsible for both the patient and the public health. As of the early morning of January 18, a total of 45 cases have been reported, all in Wuhan City designated hospital isolation treatment. Rumor Four SARS has not disappeared and has been parasitic in bats According to the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, a SARS epidemic broke out in China from 2002 to 2003. No cases of SARS have been found in China for nearly a decade, and no human SARS coronavirus has been detected in bats. Rumor Five Wuhan pneumonia virus is a long-standing SARS corona virus The China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said that the "Corona virus" circulated online was transliterated from coronavirus (coronavirus), and the pathogen that caused the viral pneumonia in Wuhan was a new coronavirus, not a SARS virus. Current investigations have shown that the virus's human-to-human transmission capacity and pathogenicity are weaker than SARS. As of now, there are no confirmed cases of new coronavirus in China in 2019. MAC upgrades Wuhan warning lights The MAC stated on the 17th that the CDA has considered the confirmed cases in Thailand and Japan that have not been to the South China seafood market, and the research has not ruled out a limited risk of human-to-human transmission. In addition, the source of the infection has not yet been clarified, and the tourism epidemic in Wuhan will be promoted on the 16th. It is recommended to go to the second level alert. Referring to the decision of the CDA, the MAC adjusted the warning lights of the area to "yellow" at the same time, and advised the public to pay special attention to travel safety and review whether they should go. The MAC reminds that the annual vacation is approaching. If people intend to go to Wuhan, China and its adjacent areas, they should avoid entering and exiting traditional markets, hospitals, and other public places, as well as contact with wild and livestock animals, and take personal protection measures; return to China If the above symptoms occur within 14 days, you should wear a mask to see a doctor as soon as possible, and inform the doctor of travel history, occupation, contact history, and whether they are clustered. ◇ http://www.epochtimes.com/gb/20/1/17/n11800616.htm

The patient was a 74-year-old woman from Wuhan, China. She was quarantined after arriving on Monday and was subsequently diagnosed with an infection. In addition, Japan announced the first confirmed local case of Wuhan's new coronavirus on Thursday. The Japan Broadcasting Association (NHK) quoted information from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare on Friday saying that the Chinese male patient may have been infected by his father. The Japanese Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare said that the male patient reported that he had lived with his father in Wuhan before returning to Japan on the 6th of this month, and said that his father had pneumonia , but the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare is not clear whether his father was infected with the new coronavirus , For the time being we cannot rule out the possibility of person-to-person transmission. The patient reported that he had not been to the South China Seafood Market in Wuhan. According to the Central News Agency, Taiwan experts have completed a pneumonia epidemic visit in Wuhan, China. After returning to Taiwan, a press conference was held on the afternoon of the 16th. The focus of the visit was to clarify whether the virus will be transmitted from person to person. In the case of the infection, there was another case where the father and son and the nephew had won the bid at the same time, but there was no official notification. Hong Minnan, an epidemic prevention physician at the CDA, said the first was a husband and wife, and the other was a father, son and nephew. Among them, the husband and wife gathered together, and the husband worked in the South China seafood market, but his wife was unable to move. He had not been to the seafood market, and the onset time was 5 days after the onset, and he transmitted the important message "there is a possibility of infection in the family". The second group of three patients all worked at the seafood market. Online transmission of multiple medical staff blocked by infected hospital Despite the continuous exposure of overseas epidemics, there is no announcement of the epidemic in other provinces in the mainland except for the limited public disclosure of the epidemic in Wuhan. Triggered external questions: "New patriotic pneumonia virus, only abroad does not leave the province", "coronary cases have gone abroad, there are no other provinces in China except Wuhan? They are holding their hands under pressure and deceiving themselves." In the midst of doubts, the Wuhan Health Commission recently announced on the 17th that 4 new cases of pneumonia caused by new coronavirus infection have been added. At present, the new cases have been transferred to Wuhan Jinyintan Hospital for treatment. A mobile phone text message from a suspected doctor to others was uploaded on the Internet, saying, "The doctors of the new pneumonia really did not want to report, but did not dare to report. Several medical staff have been recruited, and many are afraid to speak. " The suspected doctor's message reminded others to be vigilant. (Web picture) Another netizen posted that multiple medical staff in some top three hospitals in Wuhan had been infected and the situation was serious. Jinyintan Hospital was not overwhelmed but was overcrowded. She also questioned: "I don't know how long the government will continue to press, but what I want to say is that it is time to panic ..." Netizens reported that many medical staff were infected. (Web picture) This netizen's claim that the "Jinyintan Hospital is overcrowded" is corroborated by another netizen's post. The netizen pointed out that his friend's father was diagnosed with the new coronavirus and wanted to transfer to Jinyintan Hospital, but because the beds there were full, he couldn't transfer, he asked the media for help. (Web picture) In addition to the medical staff being infected, there were also reports of infections in patients seeking medical treatment. In addition, on the night of January 17, 2020, a netizen commented below a video of " New Wuhan Coronavirus Pneumonia New Death Case" on Tencent : "My wife's hospital has more than 30 patients infected with pneumonia and has been transferred to hospital for isolation." Take screenshots. However, the above information cannot be independently verified. (webpage Screenshot) A day ago, a message was uploaded from Weibo on the mainland. A Wuhan netizen, Mr. Li Shusss, wrote that his father first had a new coronavirus outbreak, and then he and his mother were infected. However, the hospital stated that there was no outpatient department and he could not get injection treatment, so he sent a letter for help. He also said that after entering the Tongji Hospital in Wuhan, all fever patients were found. "Many people are lying on the floor of the corridor, all the examinations have been done, and two days of injections have been given. Hospitalized, no beds ", after several setbacks before being sent to Jinyintan Hospital. Its Weibo content was quickly emptied, but the news was spread and caused concern. Although the mainland network is strictly sealed, similar news continues to be exposed. Another netizen named “Muse Yan” broke the news on Weibo. Her mother had a cold and cough for one week, and she became ill. She went to the Wuhan City Central Hospital at 6 am to see the emergency department. The emergency room was overcrowded. All tests are negative. "Muse Yan" contacted the doctor at the scene and was told that she highly suspected that her mother had the new virus, but when asked where to confirm the diagnosis, the doctor asked the patient to inquire about how to treat it. The doctor also said "I don't know" , His mother eventually took no action and was not segregated. Netizens questioned the relevant authorities: "Where did the data released by your authoritative authority come from? If I hadn't experienced it myself, I would really have believed you. If you suspect that you have a new virus, even the doctors do n’t know where to check, confirm the diagnosis, ridiculous? Take Are the patients' lives joking? " Netizens broke the news that their family members got medical treatment. (Network screenshot) Due to the emergence of multiple suspected "human-to-human" cases, what is most worrying about the outside world now is that the tide of returning to the Chinese New Year, which will reach 3 billion, has begun, and many railway stations in the mainland have not adopted any epidemic prevention measures. The press conference held by the New Office of the Communist Party of China on January 9 predicts that the number of tourists sent back to China this year will reach more than 3 billion. Among them, there were 2.43 billion passenger trips on the road, 440 million passenger trips on the railway, 79 million passenger trips on civil aviation, and 45 million passenger trips on water. # Editor-in-chief: Sun Yun # http://www.epochtimes.com/gb/20/1/17/n11801219.htm
