Confirmed Probable Total Cases 30,458 216 30,674 Deaths 1,089 18 1,107 Confirmed cases and deaths are generally determined by positive PCR tests, which detect the presence of ongoing coronavirus infection. Probable cases are those who test positive by other testing methods such as antibody or antigen, and have recent symptoms consistent with COVID-19, indicating a recent infection. Probable deaths are those individuals with a designation of COVID-19 as a cause of death on the death certificate, but where no confirmatory testing was performed. Mississippi Cases and Deaths Tables Mississippi COVID-19 cases and deaths by county, race and ethnicity Current and past data tables Mississippi counties ranked by weekly cases and incidence Long-Term Care Facility Cases and Outbreaks Long-term care (LTC) facilities like nursing homes are considered high risk locations because their residents are older or in poor health. Even one case of COVID-19 in these facilities among residents or employees is considered an outbreak. We investigate residents, staff and close contacts of infected individuals for possible exposure. Residential care facilities also represent group living facilities where COVID-19 can be easily spread. Mississippi COVID-19 cases and deaths in long-term care facilities PDF Long-term care facilities include nursing homes, personal care homes, assisted living homes, and intermediate care facilities for individuals with intellectual disability (ICF-IID) Mississippi COVID-19 cases and deaths in residential care facilities PDF Residential care facilities include psychiatric or chemical dependency residential treatment centers and long-term acute care facilities. Active Outbreaks The table of active outbreaks lists all facilities that have reported a current COVID-19 outbreak. Resident and employee totals are for those cases associated with the current outbreak only. The reported deaths are those which have occurred only among the cases in the current outbreak. Weekly High Case and High Incidence Counties These weekly tables count cases based on the date of testing, not the date the test result was reported, and count only those cases where the date of testing is known. They rank counties by weekly cases, and by incidence (cases proportional to population). A separate table ranking all counties is also available. All tables updated weekly. 21. By Los Angeles Times Staff Updated July 3, 11 p.m. Pacific 251,175 confirmed cases +4,325 on Friday 6,318 deaths +53 on Friday The coronavirus pandemic has spread rapidly across California. Experts say the true number of people infected is unknown and likely much higher than official tallies. To better understand the spread of the virus, The Times is conducting an independent, continual survey of dozens of local health agencies across the state. What we know Cases are increasing. Records have been shattered in recent days with 29 counties failing to meet the governor's standard for containing new cases. Expect low totals over the holiday weekend. Los Angeles County, America's most populous county, has said it won't be reporting new cases due to a technology upgrade. Hospitalizations are creeping up. Patient counts are climbing in 17 counties, threatening a goal of the stay-at-home policies. Testing has increased. Over the last seven days, about 97,000 tests have been conducted per day, exceeding the governor’s goal. The reopening is rolling back. With cases increasing, some areas have have returned to stricter lockdowns and masks are required across the state.. The highest toll is among seniors. Roughly 78% of the dead were 65 or older. At least 3,086 were living at a nursing home. California's totals still sit far below New York, where more than 32,100 people have died. Coronavirus can infect people so rapidly that it has continued to spread despite shutdown orders aimed at slowing the growth of new cases and flattening this line. For instance, some agencies do not report new totals on weekends, leading to lower numbers on those days. They offer a more stable view of the trend than daily totals. That's why experts wait for lines like these to flatten before they say conditions are improving. Over the past week, the state has averaged 6,338 new cases and 64.4 new deaths per day. The chart below is adjusted to show how quickly new cases are being confirmed in each county. A good sign is when a line flattens, which indicates that transmission is slowing in that area. Case counts are plotted on a logarithmic scale, which makes it easier to see when cases level off. Doubling rate is the estimate of how long it would take the county to double its number of cases, given the trend in the last week. Compare the slope of a county's curve to the slope of the guide lines to estimate its doubling rate at any point. How COVID-19 crushed California’s workforce The coronavirus outbreak decimated California's economy. The Times is tracking the fallout as businesses begin to reopen. Cases by county and city While initial outbreaks were centered in the San Francisco Bay Area, most new cases and deaths are now concentrated in Southern California. Find out what's open where you live. Our state in context The coronavirus has hit most of the U.S., with the largest concentrations in and around New York City. California, America's most populous state, has one of the highest totals. It ranks much lower after adjusting for population. The chart below is adjusted to show how quickly new cases are being confirmed in each state. A good sign is when a line flattens, which indicates that transmission is slowing in that area. Case counts are plotted on a logarithmic scale, which makes it easier to see when cases level off. Doubling rate is the estimate of how long it would take the state to double its number of cases, given the trend in the last week. State and county totals come from a continual Times survey of California's 58 county health agencies as well as the three run by cities. Those figures are ahead of the totals periodically released by the state's Department of Public Health. State officials acknowledge that their tallies lag behind the updates posted by local agencies throughout the day and do not dispute The Times' method. The Times switched to using this method on March 18, leading to increases over what it had published previously using state data. The tallies here are mostly limited to residents of California, which is the standard method used to count patients by the state’s health authorities. Those totals do not include people from other states who are quarantined here, such as the passengers and crew of the Grand Princess cruise ship that docked in Oakland. In an effort to aid scientists and researchers in the fight against COVID-19, The Times has released its database of California coronavirus cases to the public. The database is available on Github, a popular website for hosting data and computer code. The files will be updated daily at github.com/datadesk/california-coronavirus-data. Closures and restrictions are drawn from an ongoing Times survey of county governments. National and global case data are collected by the the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and researchers at the Johns Hopkins University Center for Systems Science and Engineering.
