Group housing facilities include correctional facilities, homeless shelters, dormitories, and group homes. The data on group housing is unknown at this time for a portion of cases because these data have only been systematically collected since April 8, 2020. However, any COVID cases who were part of an outbreak investigation in a long-term care or other group housing facility prior to April 8 are classified under the appropriate group setting category (and are not included in the unknown category). Percent of COVID-19 cases by recovery status The number of patients recovered from COVID-19 is defined as the number of confirmed cases who are currently alive based on Wisconsin state vital records system data and had one or more of the following: Documentation of resolved symptoms Documentation of release from public health isolation 30 days since symptom onset or diagnosis Active cases include COVID-19 cases who were diagnosed in the last 30 days, are not known to have died, and do not yet meet the definition of having recovered. Percent of COVID-19 cases who are health care workers Data on COVID-19 cases who are health care workers represents a broad range of occupations in the health care field, including nurses, physicians, surgeons, physician assistants, health care support staff, emergency medical technicians and paramedics, dentists and other dental health workers, and pharmacists. Confirmed Probable Total Cases 16,654 115 16,769 Deaths 787 16 803 Confirmed cases and deaths are generally determined by positive PCR tests, which detect the presence of ongoing coronavirus infection. Probable cases are those who test positive by other testing methods such as antibody or antigen, and have recent symptoms consistent with COVID-19, indicating a recent infection. Probable deaths are those individuals with a designation of COVID-19 as a cause of death on the death certificate, but where no confirmatory testing was performed. Long-Term Care Facility Cases and Outbreaks Long-term care (LTC) facilities like nursing homes are considered high risk locations because their residents are older or in poor health. Even one case of COVID-19 in these facilities among residents or employees is considered an outbreak. We investigate residents, staff and close contacts of infected individuals for possible exposure. Residential care facilities also represent group living facilities where COVID-19 can be easily spread. Active Outbreaks The table of active outbreaks below lists all facilities that have a current COVID-19 outbreak. Employee cases and resident cases are cumulative totals of cases associated only with the current outbreak. The reported deaths represent the cumulative number of deaths that have occurred among the cases in the current outbreak.
