  2. CPAC attendee tested positive for coronavirus By Greg Clary, CNN Updated 6:07 PM ET, Sat March 7, 2020 (CNN)The American Conservative Union announced on Saturday that one of the attendees at last week's Conservative Political Action Conference in National Harbor, Maryland, has tested positive for coronavirus. President Donald Trump, Vice President Mike Pence and other administration officials attended the conference, though the ACU says the attendee did not come into contact with the president or vice president, nor did they attend events in the main hall. The ACU said the Trump administration "is aware of the situation." "The exposure occurred previous to the conference. A New Jersey hospital tested the person, and CDC confirmed the positive result," ACU said in a statement. "The individual is under the care of medical professionals in the state of New Jersey, and has been quarantined." The ACU noted that it has been in contact with the state of Maryland's health department and would follow guidance from health experts. "Our children, spouses, extended family, and friends attended CPAC. During this time, we need to remain calm, listen to our health care professionals, and support each other. We send this message in that spirit," ACU said in a statement. https://www.cnn.com/2020/03/07/politics/cpac-coronavirus-tested-positive/index.html

  5. For Immediate Release: March 07, 2020 For more information contact: Public Health Communications (213) 240-8144 [email protected] 2019 Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) Advisory - One New Case of Confirmed COVID-19 in Los Angeles County LOS ANGELES – The Los Angeles County Department of Public Health (Public Health) is investigating one additional case of COVID-19 in Los Angeles County; the total number of cases for the county is now 14. The additional positive case in LA County is a resident who recently returned from attending the AIPAC Conference in Washington, D.C. where there was a known exposure to a person who was positive for COVID-19. Public Health is identifying persons who may have had close personal contact with this individual, including any friends, family members or health care professionals, to assess and monitor them for signs and symptoms of illness has begun. All confirmed cases are isolated and close contacts are quarantined for 14 days from last exposure. There are no known public exposure locations related to this case. “As we continue to see more cases of COVID-19, it is important that everyone take common sense precautions: stay home when ill, wash hands frequently, and plan ahead for possible social disruptions,” said Barbara Ferrer, PhD, MPH, MEd, Director of Public Health. “Pregnant women, individuals with underlying health conditions, and older people should practice social distancing and avoid being in close contact with others who are ill. By working together, we can try to slow the transmission of novel coronavirus,” she added. Public Health will continue to actively monitor this situation and provide updates to the public as needed. Public Health continues to recommend that the public do the following to protect themselves and others from respiratory illnesses: Stay home when you are sick. Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands. Limit close contact, like kissing and sharing cups or utensils, with people who are sick. Clean and disinfect frequently touched surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe. Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you do not have a tissue, use your sleeve (not your hands). Facemasks are most effective when used appropriately by health care workers and and those directly caring for people who are sick and by people who are sick (source control). 7. 2nd coronavirus case confirmed in Alameda County was Grand Princess passenger CALIFORNIA CONNECTION by: Nexstar Media Wire Posted: Mar 6, 2020 / 07:55 PM PST / Updated: Mar 6, 2020 / 07:51 PM PST ALAMEDA COUNTY, Calif. (KRON) — A second case of COVID-19 has been confirmed in Alameda County, the Alameda County Public Health Department Friday evening. The person was a passenger of the Grand Princess cruise ship from Feb. 11 to Feb. 21, the same ship where an elderly man died from the coronavirus — the first in California. The new case is an older adult who has underlying medical conditions. The patient is currently hospitalized and their family members are in quarantine. While the person was exposed outside of Alameda County, officials say community transmission in the Bay Area is increasing. They say they are prepared for and expect to see more cases in Alameda County in the coming days. RELATED: 21 on cruise ship off California test positive for virus Health officials advise anyone who was on that cruise ship feeling ill to immediately get tested. Some symptoms include fever, new cough or breathing issues. Alameda County residents should take these precautions to stop the spread of germs and prevent respiratory illness: Practice good personal hygiene habits Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing Refrain from touching your eyes, nose and mouth Stay home when you are sick and away from others in your home At this time, Alameda County health officials are not generally recommending the cancellation of mass gatherings or school dismissals. However, they do recommend that events that involve vulnerable populations such as the elderly and those with underlying chronic medical conditions should be carefully reconsidered at this time.

  9. Coronavirus case confirmed in Madera County, following resident’s cruise ship trip BY TIM SHEEHAN MARCH 07, 2020 08:49 AM A Madera County resident has been confirmed as the region’s first case of the fast-spreading coronavirus, following the resident’s return from a recent Princess Cruise trip. The patient, whose identity and gender have not been released, has been isolated and is reported to be in stable condition after being hospitalized briefly this week, according to a statement by Dr. Simon Paul, Madera County’s public health officer. Officials did not say where the couple had traveled to. Paul said his office was notified by the state Department of Public Health on Thursday and asked to monitor a husband and wife who had returned from a Princess cruise. The couple remained isolated in their home, but one of the two developed symptoms of COVID-19, the disease linked to coronavirus. The couple went to Madera Community Hospital and were met by hospital staff at the car rather than entering a public area. They were masked and taken directly to an isolation room for testing and treatment, officials said. “This is an isolated case with a known source of transmission,” the county health office reported. One person visited the couple before disease symptoms arose and is now isolated and being monitored by health staff. The virus, first reported in China, has swept across Asia and is sparking outbreaks in Europe and the United States. More than 101,000 cases of COVID-19 have been confirmed worldwide with more than 3,450 deaths as of March 6, according to Johns Hopkins University. As of Friday afternoon, the Sacramento region had reported nine cases, including one death. An undisclosed number of people are being quarantined. Of 14 deaths nationally, 11 have been in the greater Seattle, Washington area.

  11. By Megan Meier UPDATED today at 10:42 am Published March 7, 2020 10:30 am First Santa Cruz County coronavirus case confirmed SANTA CRUZ, Calif. (KION) The County of Santa Cruz Public Health Department announced its first case of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19), Saturday. Health officials said test results confirmed the virus in a Santa Cruz County resident who traveled on the Grand Princess Cruise Ship from San Francisco to Mexico in mid-February. The health department said they are currently investigating if any exposures of the virus may have occurred. "We are taking this situation seriously and are taking steps necessary to protect the health and safety of Santa Cruz County residents," said County of Santa Cruz Health Officer, Dr. Gail Newel. The identity of the individual diagnosed remains private. The California Department of Public Health (CDPH) was first to alert Santa Cruz County of travelers returning from the Grand Princess Cruise Ship to the Central Coast. Officials said each of these individuals are being monitored by the health department and are under self-quarantine. On March 4, Santa Cruz County declared a local health emergency due to the Coronavirus, but adds that the risk to residents remains low. With the spread of the virus, officials said they expect there will be additional cases in the county. “Any new virus brings a great deal community concern. We are prepared for all situations that may arise,” Dr. Newel said. KION's Megan Meier will have more on this story tonight at 5 p.m.
