Two COVID Cases Contra Costa Co California ex-Grand Princess
niman replied to niman's topic in California (2019-nCoV)
Officials with Contra Costa County on Friday announced three new confirmed cases of the coronavirus. The three new patients are in isolation in their homes, according to officials. Two of the patients were passengers aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship. Officials added that one is known to have had close contact with a coronavirus patient in another jurisdiction. Right now health officials are recommending that people who are at higher risk for coronavirus – including adults over age 50 and people with certain underlying medical conditions – should avoid mass public gatherings such as sporting events, parades, and concerts. More details on the three new cases will be released at a press conference in Martinez at 2 p.m. We’ll be airing that conference live on KRONon.tv. -

Media Release For Immediate Release www.washoecounty.us/health Contact: Scott Oxarart [email protected] 775.328.2414 or 775.276.1021 Reno, Nev. March 5, 2020. The Washoe County Health District (WCHD) has received a presumptive positive case of COVID-19 (novel coronavirus), the first in Washoe County. The test has been sent to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention for confirmation. The case is a male resident in his 50s who is linked to the Grand Princess cruise ship outbreak. His condition is stable and he is self isolating at home. The case has a family member who is a student at Huffaker Elementary School in Reno, Nev. Out of an abundance of caution, the Health District requested that Huffaker Elementary School be closed on Friday, March 6. The Washoe County School District has informed parents of the closure. There are no confirmed cases at Huffaker Elementary. “The Health District’s top priority right now is to investigate this case and identify close contacts,” said Kevin Dick, District Health Officer for the Washoe County Health District. “Our staff is working with the school district to help ensure safety for students and faculty at Huffaker, as well as the community. Additional information will be released as we learn more. “We cannot stress enough that the most important thing people can do to prevent contracting COVID-19 is to practice social distancing, wash your hands with water and soap frequently, cough and sneeze into your sleeve and stay home if you’re sick. We ask that you inform family and friends of these preventive measures.” While this is as serious public health threat, the immediate risk to the general public in Washoe County and the United States remains low at this time. The public is encouraged to go to www.washoecounty.us/covid19 for updated information. Media: A press briefing is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Friday, March 6, at the Washoe County Administration Complex, Media Room, Building A. 2 Coronavirus Cases In PA, Gov. Wolf Says Gov. Tom Wolf said Friday morning that Pennsylvania now has two cases of the novel coronavirus. By Max Bennett, Patch Staff Mar 6, 2020 10:01 am ET | Updated Mar 6, 2020 10:32 am ET HARRISBURG — Pennsylvania has two cases of novel coronavirus, Gov. Tom Wolf said Friday morning. Wolf was joined by health officials in Harrisburg Friday at a news conference where he announced cases in Delaware and Wayne counties. Both cases are presumed positive, Wolf said. Officials did not provide further details on the patients. Both patients are complying with directives to stay self-quarantined in their homes and both are in good condition, officials said. The patients were exposed to the coronavirus, known as COVID-19, through travel, and it was not spread through community interaction, officials said Friday. State health officials Thursday issued new guidelines for residents returning from China, Iran, Italy, and South Korea. Earlier Friday, the Central Bucks School District in Bucks County closed five schools after people within the district were exposed to a confirmed case of the new coronavirus. Two possible cases are being investigated in Philadelphia, as well. A lab in Chester County has begun testing for the virus. The CDC said in late January that it would be screening passengers at the Philadelphia International Airport for the illness. According to Pennsylvania health officials, travelers who are self-monitoring their health and practicing social distancing should: Take your temperature with a thermometer twice day and monitor for fever. Also watch for cough or trouble breathing. Stay home and avoid contact with others. Do not go to work or school for this 14-day period. If you must leave your home, do not take public transportation, taxis or ride-shares during the time you are practicing social distancing. If you must leave your home, avoid crowded places (such as shopping centers and movie theaters) and limit your activities in public. Keep your distance from others (about 6 feet or 2 meters). Pennsylvanians are encouraged to help stop the spread of viruses by: Washing your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. Use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer if soap and water are not available. Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when coughing or sneezing. Clean surfaces frequently, including countertops, light switches, cell phones and other frequently touched items. If you are sick, stay home and avoid contact with others. https://patch.com/pennsylvania/philadelphia/s/h1ghg/delco-has-presumed-coronavirus-case-gov-wolf-says

Pennsylvania confirmed its first two "presumed positive" cases of the coronavirus in the state, Gov. Tom Wolf said during a news conference Friday morning. The COVID-19 patients are adults from Delaware County and Wayne County. Officials said the patients appear to have contracted the virus outside of Pennsylvania. There is no indication that the virus has spread in the community. The two patients and anyone who has been in close contact with them have been directed to self-quarantine in their homes for 14 days. That two-week period is the standard for anyone with the virus, or believed to have been in contact with the virus. Though tests at a lab near Philadelphia confirmed these patients as having the coronavirus on Friday, the test samples need to be confirmed by the CDC. That is why they are considered "presumed positive" at this time. Levine said she was not aware of any tests performed at the state level that were later found by the CDC to be incorrect. State Health Secretary Rachel Levine said the state was ready for an outbreak and expects more cases to be confirmed in the coming days. State officials did not identify the patients and did not narrow down the location of the patients out of consideration for their privacy. One patient had traveled extensively in Europe, including to at least one country considered to be high risk for the coronavirus. The other traveled to another state and was in contact with someone now confirmed to have the virus. Pennsylvania will be able to test up to about 150 cases per day by this weekend, Levine said. Gov. Wolf said he will make a general disaster declaration for the state on Friday to improve the ability to work across agencies and improve the coordinated response needed for this public health emergency. https://www.ydr.com/story/news/2020/03/06/coronavirus-in-pa-first-covid-19-case-confirmed-in-pennsylvania-wayne-delaware-county/4966026002/

Sonoma County: Shuttle Passengers From Prior Grand Princess Cruise Test Positive (3:04 p.m.) Sonoma County health officials said Thursday that 78 county residents were aboard the Grand Princess cruise ship when it sailed from San Francisco to Mexico on Feb. 11. The ship returned to San Francisco on Feb. 21 before departing on another voyage to Hawaii. Jennifer Larocque, spokesperson for the county’s health department, said two residents of Sonoma County who were on the initial cruise to Mexico have tested positive for novel coronavirus. Larocque said those two patients were among 25 Grand Princess passengers from Sonoma County who rode a shuttle together after disembarking. The health department is reaching out to the other passengers who were on the cruise. “The 14-day window of risk of exposure for the cruise ends tomorrow,” Larocque said on Thursday. “If passengers that were on the ship have not experienced symptoms yet, they likely will not.” The Grand Princess is currently being held off the coast of Monterey while some of its current passengers are being tested for the virus. Risk to California Public: Low (CDPH) What Californians Need to Know About the Coronavirus Confirmed cases in California: at least 60 Confirmed cases in U.S.: at least 99 Confirmed cases worldwide: 95,270 Confirmed deaths worldwide: 3,280 (3,015 in China) Number of countries: 79 Another passenger who traveled on the Grand Princess cruise to Mexico, a 71 year-old man from Placer County, died Wednesday of complications caused by COVID-19. The San Francisco Department of Emergency Management said Thursday that approximately 100 San Francisco residents were aboard the same cruise. Officials say they are in the process of contacting the passengers. Marin County’s chief Medical officer, Dr. Matt Willis, says that 55 people from Marin County were also on the voyage. The County, Willis says, is notifying passengers and that those with symptoms will be tested. -

COVID Community 90sM 40sF San Francisco California
niman replied to niman's topic in California (2019-nCoV)
News Releases The latest news and announcements from Mayor London N. Breed City and County of San Francisco Announces Cases of Novel Coronavirus in San Francisco Thursday, March 05, 2020 Two San Francisco residents are presumed positive for COVID-19 and both are hospitalized in San Francisco San Francisco, CA — The City and County of San Francisco today announced presumptive positive cases of COVID-19 in two San Francisco residents. San Francisco officials also provided updates about the status of the Grand Princess cruise ship. The San Francisco Department of Public Health (DPH) lab conducted COVID-19 tests for the two patients, and found positive results. The two patients are unrelated and both are being cared for at separate hospitals. The patients do not have a history of travel to a location with confirmed COVID-19 cases, and have no known contact with a person with a confirmed COVID-19 case. These cases are likely indicative of community transmission of COVID-19. “We want everyone to remain calm and continue taking precautions to keep themselves and their families healthy,” said Mayor Breed. “We have been increasing resources and staffing to prepare for the community spread of this virus, and we will do everything we can to protect public health. The City is in regular contact with all hospitals and health facilities in San Francisco, and our health system is prepared to deliver care to everyone in need and provide a coordinated response as additional cases of the novel coronavirus are confirmed.” One patient is in fair condition and one is in serious condition, and both are being treated in isolation at two different San Francisco hospitals. All appropriate precautions for the patient, visitors, and hospital staff are being taken. DPH informed the patients’ families this morning, and is investigating the patients’ history and contacts to protect the health of individuals and help slow the spread of the virus in the community. Patient #1 is a man in his 90s, and he is hospitalized in serious condition. The patient has underlying health conditions. He was tested by the DPH lab on March 4th. Patient #2 is a woman in her 40s, and she is hospitalized in fair condition. She was tested by the DPH lab on March 4th. To protect patient privacy, San Francisco will not be releasing further patient information or identifying the hospitals where the patients are being treated. “Confirming cases of COVID-19 in San Francisco residents unfortunately does not come as a surprise,” said Dr. Grant Colfax, Director of Health. “Given the patterns of the virus in the Bay Area, California and the country, San Francisco has been preparing for the appearance of COVID-19 in the community for many weeks. Last week, the City declared a local emergency to boost our preparedness in anticipation of confirmed cases and community spread of the virus. The people who are sick are getting care by health care professionals. We do not know at this point how they were exposed to the virus, which suggests it is spreading in the community. We expected that to happen and are further investigating the circumstances of these patients’ exposure.” On Tuesday, February 25th, Mayor Breed declared a local emergency in order to better-prepare for confirmed cases of novel coronavirus in San Francisco. The emergency declaration allows the City to mobilize resources, accelerate emergency planning, streamline staffing, coordinate agencies across the city, allow for future reimbursement by the state and federal governments and raise awareness throughout San Francisco about how to prepare for and respond to the novel coronavirus. The San Francisco Department of Public Health began testing for cases of novel coronavirus on Monday, March 2nd, and continues conducting tests locally in cases that meet the CDC criteria. “We have been preparing for the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) in San Francisco for many weeks and we are ready to support our health care providers and those who may have been exposed,” said Mary Ellen Carroll, Executive Director, Department of Emergency Management. “It is understandable to worry what community spread of the virus means to San Francisco, but we can rest assured that together that we can minimize the impact COVID-19 may have on us. Continuing healthy habits like washing hands, staying home if sick and helping loved ones to avoid getting sick will make a huge difference in the fight against COVID-19 infection in San Francisco.” Princess Cruise Ship The CDC, the California State Health Department, the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services and the US Coast Guard are working to determine if COVID-19 is present on the ship. Testing protocols are being put in place on the ship for those passengers and crew that have shown flu-like symptoms or may have been exposed to the virus, and that process is expected to begin today. Once that has happened, the CDC and the state will determine the most appropriate location for the ship to berth to provide for the safety of the surrounding community as well as the passengers and crew. The CDC and the state are fully engaged in determining a location that can most appropriately address the health of those passengers that may have COVID-19 and the safety of those passengers not impacted, as well as the surrounding community. Recommendations for COVID-19 Preparedness The best way for all San Franciscans to reduce their risk of getting sick, as with seasonal colds or the flu, still applies to prevent COVID-19: Wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds; Cover your cough or sneeze; Stay home if you are sick; Get your flu shot to protect against flu or symptoms similar to COVID-19; Try alternatives to shaking hands, like an elbow bump or wave; and If you have recently returned from a country with ongoing COVID-19 infections, monitor your health and follow the instructions of public health officials. There is no recommendation to wear masks at this time to prevent yourself from getting sick. You can also prepare for the possible disruption caused by an outbreak: Make sure you have a supply of all essential medications for your family; Make a child care plan if you or a care giver are sick; Make arrangements about how your family will manage a school closure; and Make a plan for how you can care for a sick family member without getting sick yourself. The status of COVID-19 in San Francisco and the region is rapidly evolving. Please check the following online resources or call 3-1-1 for guidance regarding COVID-19 public heath safety information: www.sfdph.org www.sf72.org www.sfgov.org At this time, public health officials are not generally recommending the cancellation of public events. However, DPH has recommended that events that involve vulnerable populations should be carefully reconsidered at this time, and advises everyone review the CDC’s recommendations on mass gatherings. -
