  7. LA PAZ, Bolivia ( Associated Press) — Bolivian health officials said Monday that thousands of birds had been culled after an outbreak of bird flu was detected on farms in two cities in the central region of Cochabamba, prompting the declaration of an outbreak over the weekend. was forced to Health emergency for 120 days. “The birds have been removed for their subsequent sanitary burial and for cleaning and disinfection,” Javier Suarez, executive director of the National Agricultural Health and Food Safety Service, told Bolivian TV. Suarez did not specify the number of birds killed, but his office reported a day earlier that 142,200 chickens were being considered for eradication and nearby farms were raking. Suarez said the outbreak occurred on farms in the towns of Sacaba and Quilacolo in Cochabamba, east of La Paz. He said it is believed that the outbreak is due to the migration of birds that occurs at the beginning of the year. “Quilacolo has already been resolved but we are on the campaign trail,” he said. The Minister of Rural Development and Lands, Rémy Gonzales, explained that an outbreak of H5 avian influenza was detected in those areas of the country on January 25 following the death of farm birds. Meanwhile, Ivan Carrion, vice president of the departmental union of poultry farmers, asked the population not to be alarmed, as the disease was predicted according to what he assured. He said that countries like Ecuador, Peru, Argentina have also reported avian influenza. But his poultry colleagues have called an emergency meeting to stop the spread. The Central Region of Cochabamba is one of the most important regions in chicken production in Bolivia.

  15. White trucks — emblazoned with the seal of the Tennessee Department of Agriculture and “fire and burn” stickers — began rolling past around the same time the family began smelling a terrible, new odor. It was distinct from the smell of chicken waste that has been ever-present since a 16-barn industrial chicken operation, a raw meat supplier for Tyson Foods, moved in two years ago over Burton’s objections. Within days, the smell had bloomed into an overpowering stench of rotting carcasses. The stench now permeates their home, and has cost everyone in the family a good night’s sleep — something Burton said his fiancee’s 11-year-old son with autism has struggled with the most. https://www.rawstory.com/avian-flu-tennessee/

Tables of COVID-19 Testing Data, Hospital Use, and Case Demographics View Wastewater Testing Data Download Maine CDC Wastewater Testing Reports People infected with the virus that causes COVID-19 may shed it in the water that flows from their homes to public wastewater systems. This happens whether they have symptoms or not. Communities can track virus activity by looking for viral RNA in wastewater. Wastewater, or sewage, includes water that may contain human waste (toilets, showers, sinks). It also includes water from some other sources (rainwater, water for industrial use). To better understand the burden of COVID-19 in a community, Maine CDC and US CDC test wastewater for the virus. This helps to tailor public health actions to protect communities across the state. Find these data on the US CDC COVID Data Tracker. Data will be added to the Data Tracker as they become available. https://www.maine.gov/dhhs/mecdc/infectious-disease/epi/airborne/coronavirus/data.shtml
