Italy/LAZ-AMC3-5015/2020 matched UK variant with 3 AAs deleted in Spike protein, 3 AAs deleted in NSP6 and Q27 stop codon in NS8.

Italian spy did not catch mutated virus from UK

A spy who became the first Italian known to have the British coronavirus variant did not catch it from her English partner, as was originally suspected, suggesting that the virus mutation has been in Italy longer than believed.

The woman, 42, tested positive in Rome last week and it was assumed that she had caught the virus from her partner, a former British Army officer recently returned from the UK.

However, although the women's partner also had COVID-19 diagnosed, tests have shown that he has the normal variant.....
