UK Variant COVID Sequence From Island Health Region British Columbia ex-UK

BCCDC Public Health Laboratory has released (at GISAID) the UK Variant sequence, hCoV-19/Canada/BC-BCCDC-9557/2020, from a Dec collection from a patient who had returned from the UK.

The individual, who resides in the Island Health region, returned to B.C. from the U.K. on flight AC855 on Dec. 15, 2020, developed symptoms while in quarantine and was immediately tested.

Canada/BC-BCCDC-9557/2020 matched UK variant with 3 AAs deleted in Spike protein, 3 AAs deleted in NSP6 and Q27 stop codon in NS8.
