A UNK number will be assigned and updated upon publication USA/NJ-CDC-STM-UNK149/2021 Ocean County New Jersey New Jersey has identified its first two known cases of a more contagious COVID-19 variant that was first detected in the United Kingdom. The first case involves an Ocean County resident in his 60s. State Health Commissioner Judith Persichilli said the man had no travel history or a clear exposure to others who were ill. He developed symptoms on Dec. 29 and was tested on Jan. 6. Persichilli said his PCR test showed results suggestive of the variant and the sample was sent to a lab which confirmed the UK variant. The man's symptoms have since resolved.
