A highly pathogenic (highly pathogenic) avian influenza virus of the H5 type was also detected in a fallen Stockente in Muggensturm (Landkreis Rastatt). However, it is not H5N8, but another subtype of the virus. For further clarification of this case the Ministry is in close consultation with the Friedrich-Loeffler-Institut. As soon as a finding is available, it is notified.

New cases of avian influenza in wild birds in Ulm and in the district of Rastatt / further positive findings in the district of Emmendingen / compliance with stabling requirements and supplementary measures on biosecurity still essential

According to the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Consumer Protection on Tuesday (27 December), the bird flu virus H5N8 was detected in a swan at the weekend.

Also in the district of Emmendingen (Rheinhausen) a buzzard was positively tested for avian influenza.

Due to the country-wide stabling requirement for farmed poultry and the imposed biosecurity measures for poultry farmers, the necessary protective measures have already been taken on the spot.

The bird flu is still restricted to wild birds in the country. Poultry has not yet been affected. The highly pathogenic avian influenza virus has been confirmed in 299 wild birds in Baden-Württemberg. The counties Bodenseekreis, Constance, Ravensburg, Emmendingen, Sigmaringen and now Ulm and Rastatt are affected.

The Ministry points to the necessity of strict compliance with stabling requirements and other biosafety measures due to the still acute occurrence in the country and the increased outbreaks in poultry holdings in northern Germany.

Moreover, whether in Muggensturm (Kreis Rastatt ) with a mallard, a likewise highly pathogenic - ie strong sickening - virus type H5 was detected. "However, it is not H5N8, but a different subtype of the virus," the ministry said.
