niman Posted February 4, 2020 Report Posted February 4, 2020 (edited) The University of Washington has released sequences at GISAID from two isolates (BetaCoV/USA/WA1-F6/2020 and BetaCoV/USA/WA1-A12/2020) from the first confirmed nCoV case (35M) from Snohomish County,WA. They match the original sequence which has the orf8 mutation and is the same lineage as sequences from Shenzhen, Chicago, Yorkshire clusters,and other US sequences (from CA and AZ) and other sequences from China (Shenzhen and Wohan) and the first sequence from South Korea. niman Posted February 4, 2020 Author Report Posted February 4, 2020 In 2003, a 29 nt deletion in orf 8 was associated with increased transmission and virulence which lead to international spread via guests and visitors at the Metropole Hotel.
