  17. On May 20, 2016, the Garland Health Department (GHD) received confirmation of the first case of Zika virus in Garland. Based on CDC guidance, the infected individual was tested for the Zika virus because she is pregnant and has recently traveled to a country with local transmission of Zika. There is no local threat of transmission in our area because the infected individual did not return to Garland during the disease phase when she was capable of transmitting Zika via mosquitoes. http://www.garlandtx.gov/civicax/filebank/blobdload.aspx?BlobID=26480

  23. Legacy Community Health, one of the nation’s largest community health centers, today announced its first patient, a pregnant woman, testing positive for Zika virus. The woman had lived in El Salvador, where the virus is widespread, prior to coming to the U.S. earlier this year, but it’s not clear whether she contracted the virus directly through a mosquito bite in El Salvador or through sexual transmission with a male partner. Either way, the Centers for Disease Control has said definitively the virus can cause severe birth defects. http://www.legacycommunityhealth.org/newsroom/first-legacy-patient-tests-positive-for-zika-as-houston-flooding-sure-to-boost-mosquito-popula…

He went to the doctor's office, and a clever physician's assistant thought of Zika virus. The day before his symptoms set in, the traveler had had anal sex with his partner. They'd been together for more than 10 years. They'd had sex again a day after the man recovered. The traveler hadn't noticed anything unusual about his urine or sperm, and the couple di…
