Cases, Hospitalizations and Deaths Daily Counts This chart shows the number of positive cases by diagnosis date, hospitalizations by admission date and deaths by date of death from COVID-19 on a daily basis since March 3. As of March 31, the NYC Health Department is now reporting the number of COVID-19 cases by diagnosis date, instead of report date. Diagnosis date is the date that someone went to their doctor and had a swab taken for testing. We were previously using the reported date of infection.
