  4. SHERMAN OAKS (CBSLA.com) — Concerns about the Zika virus are rising in the Southland. According to the LA County Health Department, several women have contracted the virus while traveling. KCAL9’s Rachel Kim looks at the numbers. The number of pregnant women with Zika in America now stands at more than 150. In Los Angeles, our numbers are growing too.   6. Today, the Marin County Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) confirmed Marin’s first Zika virus infection. The disease was contracted by an individual who was in Central America recently. The spread of the Zika virus occurs primarily through infected Aedes mosquitoes, which have not been detected in Marin. Due to privacy concerns and because this case does not represent any risk to the community, HHS will not release any identifying information regarding the infected individual.   20. California Department of Public Health (CDPH) Director and State Public Health Officer Dr. Karen Smith today announced the first confirmed case of Zika virus acquired in California. This case involves transmission of Zika virus through sexual contact with a Zika infected partner who returned from a country where Zika virus was circulating, not from a mosquito bite.
