Second Zika case confirmed in Allegheny CountyApril 25, 2016 3:49 PM Felipe Dana/Associated PressAn Aedes aegypti mosquito, which is known to carry the Zika virus. By David Templeton / Pittsburgh Post-GazetteHealth officials have confirmed a second Zika infection in Allegheny County, this one involving a man who returned from a Zika-affected area in March. That man, who wasn’t identified, is doing well, said Melissa Wade, spokeswoman for the Allegheny County Health Department. Testing for 75 other Allegheny County residents is pending, the health department web site states. Today, the State Department of Heatlh the county raised the statewide total number of cases to date to 16, as a result of the Allegheny County case, with 128 pending test results. County Health Director Karen Hacker has encouraged pregnant women to avoid visiting outbreak-stricken regions of the world, including Caribbean nations, Central America and large a percentage of South American nations, among other places worldwide. Zika infections appear tied to elevated incidences of birth defects in countries such as Brazil, where the outbreak picked up speed in May 2015. In its most recent totals, the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reported 388 cases of Zika with 33 involving pregnant women and eight cases resulting from sexual contact with travelers returning from Zike-affected areas. There has yet to be a document case on mainland United States linked directly to a bite from an Aedes mosquito, which are the known vectors of the virus. The Gorgas Memorial Institute for Health Studies (ICGES) reported that in the country there have been four cases of microcephaly, which have some relation to the Zika virus. Juan Miguel Pascale, deputy director of ICGES, said that of all cases have been confirmed three, while one is still being investigated. He said that the latter was recorded in the Hospital San Miguel Arcangel, San Miguelito. "In Panama they have been reported three confirmed cases of microcephaly and one of them died. Although the loss was caused by multiple malformations, is associated with the Zika virus, "he reiterated. Meanwhile, the Health Ministry said they are investigating the data, and today will be a statement about it. The possible relationship between the zika and development of neurological diseases forced the World Health Organization to issue a global emergency in February. - See more at: http://impresa.prensa.com/panorama/casos-microcefalia-relacionados-virus-zika_0_4453804646.html#.VwOOaXJwT_U.twitter

Health Minister of France, Marisol Touraine said today RMC radio that there is a "strong suspicion" of a case of microcephaly connected to Zika virus on the island of Martinique in the Caribbean. It would be the first case of microcephaly in France, an anomaly is suspected to have been caused by Zika, a virus transmitted by mosquito that has spread throughout Latin America. Marisol Touraine said 130 pregnant women were diagnosed with the Zika virus in the Caribbean, including Martinique and French Guiana."For one, we have elements that lead us to believe that the baby developed microcephaly and microcephaly is directly linked to their infection with the Zika virus," said the minister.http://noticias.ne10.uol.com.br/saude/noticia/2016/03/22/virus-zika-causa-microcefalia-no-caribe-604215.php
