  3. On August 30, the Florida MoH reported a record number of separate local cases in Miami-Dade county. In addition to the Miami Beach cluster, 2 new local cases were cited as new investigations. The press release stated that the new cases raised the number of active investigations to 12, with a link to the active investigation page, but the page was not update and only contained the data as of August 29, which had 10 active investigations. The August 29 page had internal inconsistencies as well as a confusing notation of pending samples. Several pending had been posted in the pending column for over a week, suggesting they were positive in Florida DoH Zika antibody …

  4. Yesterday, Florida reported 3 more local Zika cases (including two more outside of Wynwood), bringing the local total to 33. Although Florida started two more investigations (on the two new confirmations outside of Wynwood), the reported totals for samples collected and tested indicates testing has dramatically slowed. Two exports out of Florida have already been reported (in El Paso, Texas and New Taipai City, Taiwan) by travelers visiting Miami-Dade and Broward counties, and the number of exports is undoubtedly much higher than reported. The limited Florida testing suggests that active transmission within Florida is not limited to Wynwood, which raises seriou…

  10. The zone of active transmission of Zika virus in Miami Beach has tripled to now encompass two thirds of the seaside city. Gov. Rick Scott announced the expansion late Friday evening in a news release. The zone now stretches from 8th Street to 63rd Street — a 4.5-square-mile zone covering all of South and Middle Beach. The Florida Department of Health has identified five people who all experienced symptoms within one month of each other — three of them in the newly expanded area, according to Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez. 12. Started by niman,

Tonight, Governor Rick Scott announced that the Florida Department of Health (DOH) has confirmed through its on-going investigation that local transmission of Zika is occurring in an expanded area of Miami Beach. DOH is expanding the area of local transmission in Miami Beach from 8th Street to 63rd Street. The total area where DOH believes active transmission of the Zika virus is occurring is around 4.5 square miles (see map below). DOH has identified five people, two males and three females, in the expanded area who all experienced symptoms within one month of each other. One of these cases has already been announced by DOH earlier this week and was under a normal invest…
