  4. The WHO Chinese National Influenza Center has released two full sets of clade 2.3.4.4 H5N2 sequences from Qinghai Lake collected in April 2015. Like the May 2016 H5N8 sequences, the outbreak was not reported by OIE http://www.oie.int/wahis_2/public\..\temp\reports/en_fup_0000019568_20160122_124732.pdf The H5 from these two collections were related to the H5N8 clade 2.3.4.4 outbreak in South Korea in 2014.

  5. Wuhan Institute of Virology has released full 2016 sequences (at GISAID) from an H5N8 outbreak at Qinghai Lake in May. Although this outbreak is not listed in OIE reports, the 48 sequences at GISAID suggest it was large and had a significant impact on bar-headed geese (on a par with the 2005 outbreak at Qinghai Lake).

    The Centre for Health Protection (CHP) of the Department of Health (DH) today (December 1) received notification of an additional human case of avian influenza A(H5N6) in Guangxi from the National Health and Family Planning Commission, and again urged the public to maintain strict personal, food and environmental hygiene both locally and during travel.The case involved a 30-year-old female farmer from Liuzhou. She developed symptoms on November 8 and was hospitalised on November 18. She is now in a serious condition.
